Ecotourism is well and truly back on the agenda in Queensland with the completion of the DestinationQ Key Action Plan last week. Premier Newman has placed ecotourism back firmly in the spotlight with an aim for Queensland to be the number one ecotourism destination once again.

Ecotourism Australia’s, Global Eco Asia-Pacific Tourism Conference in Cairns will be buzzing with actions coming out of this plan when delegates gather from 15-17 October 2012.

“We are very pleased to see the Queensland Government committing to some important actions that will build and support Ecotourism in Queensland”, Chief Executive of Ecotourism Australia, Kym Cheatham said.

“We welcome the Premier’s comments that Ecotourism is key to kick starting Queensland’s tourism industry again.”

When the Global Eco Conference commences in Cairns, the state government will be well on their way to developing a new Queensland ecotourism plan which will address opportunities to cut red tape and reduce costs for businesses.

It will be very timely for the ecotourism industry from Queensland and across Australia to gather in Cairns in four months time for the Global Eco Conference, at the very location at which this landmark ecotourism plan was tabled.

Global Eco will provide an ideal platform for discussions not only around how to reinstate ecotourism as a number one priority in Queensland, but also how Australia can be reinstated as the number one ecotourism destination worldwide.

The Global Eco Conference features a three-day interactive program incorporating the Asia-Pacific Tourism Forum and the Indigenous

Tourism Forum, along with a wide range of networking opportunities to connect with other key players involved with ecotourism.

Ecotourism Australia’s Global Eco Asia-Pacific Tourism Conference will be held 15-17 October 2012 in Cairns, Queensland with a focus on ‘Optimising Eco Wonders’.
