Ecuador presented a photography exhibition of the renewed city of Guayaquil in the recent edition of the International Tourism Show of Catalonia held in Barcelona. The city of Guayaquil is once more a bright city after the renovation work that changed its image and intended to promote the city as Ecuador’s business capital.

The photography exhibition presented the city that will host the fourth edition of Ecuador’s International Tourism Fair (FITE), from 21 to 24 September.

So far 44 countries have confirmed their participation during the event. According to Jaime Rull, president of the FITE, 80 000 visitors are expected at the Fair.

50% of the visitors are delegations from tourism companies that are interested in Ecuador as a tourism product and that are interested in Ecuador’s four different areas: the seaside, the Andes, the Amazon forest and the Galapagos.

The other 50% are final consumers. Their presence contributes for the development and expansion of the internal market.

According to Jaime Rull, tourism is one of the main resources that the city of Guayaquil should develop. It should also aim at the organization of congresses. The city has now a new identity as Ecuador’s business capital, and good hotel structures where these congresses can be held.

In addition, Simon Bolivar International Airport will be transformed in a modern congress venue after the transfer of the city’s International Airport to a new and modern venue in August.

The city of Guayaquil has changed a lot in the past six years thanks to an important operation of urban restoration that qualifies the city as an attractive destination for foreign tourists. The city is prepared to provide accommodation for 7000 people. This figure will double in the next two years as it is expected the renovation of the existing hotels and the building of new ones.

According to estimates from Ecuador’s Ministry of Tourism, the aim is to reach 1million tourists per year on the continent and on the Galapagos Islands. This growth is going to be based on the existence of various ecosystems in such a small country that can be easily reached by tourists in an hour’s time.
