Emirates’ Executives appointed to new roles

Emirates has appointed three UAE nationals to oversee continued expansion in regions covered by the airline’s destination network. The newly appointed executives, who all worked for Emirates prior to these latest roles, have taken on new positions within the airline’s Commercial Operations division.

Nabil Sultan has been appointed Senior Vice President (SVP) for Commercial Operations in Europe; Adnan Kazim has taken over as SVP – Commercial Operations for the Gulf, Middle East and Iran; and Salem Obaidalla is now SVP – Commercial Operations for Africa, West Asia & Indian Ocean.

His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed-Al Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Airline and Group, said these appointments demonstrate Emirates’ ongoing commitment to offer career progression opportunities across the group.

He added: “Emirates has a longstanding commitment to building and establishing strong operations in each region that we cover. It’s essential to have seasoned managers with excellent credentials overseeing these operations, so we are delighted to announce these latest appointments.

“Each Senior Vice President brings a wealth of experience and expertise, collated during their respective careers with Emirates, which will continue to assist the airline. Nabil, Salem and Adnan have all demonstrated their dedication and determination throughout their respective careers with Emirates, and their latest appointments show our ongoing commitment to career progression, with all three coming through the company ranks.”

Nabil Sultan joined Emirates’ IT department in 1990, a year after receiving a Bachelor of Computer Science and Management Information Systems from the University of Portland, Oregon. He was previously Emirates’ General Manager UK and Ireland, and Senior Vice President, Commercial Operations West Asia & Indian Ocean. In his new role, Nabil will oversee passenger routes on Emirates’ European network, which covers over 20 online cities.

After joining Emirates’ management training scheme in 1992, Adnan Kazim worked within several Emirates divisions, including ground handling agent Dnata. Prior to this appointment, Adnan was Emirates’ Regional Manager of Switzerland and Austria from 2001, and Vice President – Pakistan from 2004 to 2007. He then moved to Dubai and was appointed Senior Vice President – Africa. In his current position, he will be responsible for Emirates’ commercial operations in the GCC, Middle East and Iran.

Salem Obaidalla joined Emirates’ management training scheme in 1991 and swiftly climbed the ranks. He was previously Vice President for operations in India and Nepal, and will now oversee Emirates’ commercial offices in the developing Africa, West Asia & Indian Ocean region.

The trio, along with colleagues Richard Vaughan – SVP Commercial Operations East Asia and Australasia; and Nigel L. Page – SVP Commercial Operations the Americas, are collectively responsible for Emirates’ worldwide network of over 100 online destinations, reporting in to Keith Longstaff, Divisional SVP for Commercial Operations Worldwide.
