Travel plans among Americans up by 48% year-on-year: Finder’s Travel Index

That’s up from 23% just a few months ago and up from 17% in February 2021, meaning travel plans have jumped by 48% year-on-year.

Travel plans are on the rise in the United States, with 26% of American adults planning to travel over the months of March, April, and May, according to Finder.com’s latest Travel Index

That’s up from 23% just a few months ago and up from 17% in February 2021, meaning travel plans have jumped by 48% year-on-year.

18% of Americans said they plan to travel domestically in the next three months, up from the 14% who said the same in February 2021.

International travel isn't nearly as popular among Americans at 10%, but is still a sizable increase from the previous year's 4%.

Globally, men are 1.4 times more likely than women to have travel plans, but American men take it a slight step further.

Over a third (34%) of American men have travel plans over the next three months, which is significantly more than the 18% of women who say the same.

Finder.com’s global editor-at-large Angus Kidman says the increase in travel plans coincides with the drop in the number of new COVID cases.

“The Omicron variant has understandably halted some travel plans over the holidays, but the year-on-year increase makes sense when we compare the situation then and now.”

The United States was slowly overcoming the Omicron surge in early February, which was right around when the survey was conducted.”

“It’s likely that higher rates of vaccination coupled with months of delayed travel plans means people are ready to go this time around.”

“It’s promising to see the increase in travel interest, suggesting that travel is slowly starting to recover.”

Finder’s Travel Index is an ongoing survey, which has so far gathered responses from more than 250,000 people globally.
