More than 100,000 travellers have experienced one of Urban Adventures' unique style of city tours since the company was set up just three years ago.
Led by local guides who are passionate about their city and know its quirky hidden gems, Urban Adventures get people off-the-beaten-track in 85 cities around the globe, with new destinations being added to the range regularly.
From kayaking around Copenhagen harbour to street food tasting at the night markets in Hanoi and a cycle tour of Soweto in Johannesburg, there are currently 225 tours available on six continents. They are a great option for travellers who want to experience a city as if they are a local, as well as locals who want to see their own city in a new light.
New trips added for 2013 include several ‘Urban Food Safaris’ including the Real Beijing Gourmet, where people can sample local specialities before learning to make their own dumplings and the Istanbul Street Food Picnic, where participants stock up on local delicacies before savouring a traditional Turkish picnic overlooking the Galata River.
Group sizes are small, up to a maximum of 12 people and prices start from around £20 for half-day tours.
“Whichever city you’re visiting, when you join an Urban Adventure your guide’s main concern is that you have a great time in their city. It’s more than taking you on a set itinerary,” said Urban Adventures’ General Manager, Tony Carne.
“If you’re interested in dining out, your guide will show you some great places to eat. If there’s a sports game you want to see, they’ll know how to get tickets. Or if you’re looking for a specific souvenir, they’ll tell you where to get the real deal at the best price. That local insight and the chance to talk one-to-one with someone who loves their city means people get far more from an Urban Adventure than they can find in a guidebook,” he added.
