Great Reasons to Visit Cornwall

Golden beaches, palm trees and blazing sunshine – not an image that you would usually associate with a holiday within the British Isles. In Cornwall, England’s most southerly county, you will not only find all these hallmarks of a tropical seaside holiday but also a wealth of history, culture and entertainment set against a backdrop of breathtaking scenery.

Sounds good right? Well before you start fishing out your passport, sorting your travel insurance and packing your suitcases, why not take a moment to check out these other great reasons to make Cornwall your next holiday destination.

Beaches
Cornwall boasts more than 200 miles of coastline, ensuring that whatever your location you are never far from one of Cornwall’s beautiful beaches – in fact the greatest distance you will ever be from one is only 16 miles! For mile upon mile of unspoilt golden sand, head to Cornwall ’s north coast, where you will find a number of highly rated sheltered sandy beaches that are perfect for families. St Ives was recently voted the UK's best beach resort and number 6th in a league of the best sandy destinations in Europe according to Trip Advisor.

Gardens
Alongside its reputation for beautiful beaches, Cornwall also boasts an impressive selection of gardens that make the perfect day trip for everyone from the most serious horticulturalist to the intrigued holidaymaker. Thanks in part to its temperate coastal climate Cornwall is ideally suited to the growth of interesting and exotic vegetation not usually seen in Britain – each playing host to an incredible array of colours, species and smells that are a feast for the senses. One of the best examples of Cornwall’s fantastic array of gardens is the ‘Lost Gardens of Heligan’ – a stunning garden just a short journey from the town of St Austell.

Food
Cornwall is well known throughout Britain for a number of traditional culinary treats – amongst which the Cornish pasty is by far the most well known and popular export. In recent years Cornwall has built up a reputation as a leading force in quality food and award winning restaurants. What really sets Cornwall apart from the rest of England is its abundance of top quality local produce – from locally made cheeses and ciders to fresh seafood straight off the quay you can be sure that when eating in some of Cornwall best restaurants you will be eating the freshest and finest produce that Britain can produce.

Culture
If the arts are your passion, then fear not, you will be well catered for in Cornwall. Perhaps take a trip to the picturesque coastal town of St Ives, where you will find the Tate St Ives – the sister gallery to the world famous Tate gallery in London where you will find a great selection international modern and contemporary art. If the theatre is more your thing, then take a trip to Cornwall’s famous Minack Theatre, an open air theatre that was carved into its cliff side position by the hand of just one local women, an endeavour that took her entire life to complete.
