Comments As a professional incoming agent from Germany, working and living in Mexico for nearly 18 years now I would like to comment that most press news about Mexico transmit a one-eyed and widely negative perception to readers abroad.

There is a saying among press people "bad news are good news to sell" which is regrettably true. In this sense I would like to mention that Mexico is a very wide country, with more than 1,800 miles of border line with the US, a distance between Tijuana at the Mexican border to Cancun at the Caribbean of nearly 2,500 miles and more than 6,200 miles of coast line which make it difficult to guarantee safety everywhere.

Yes, Mexico is indeed in "war" against the drug cartels, a war rather different to Irak or Afganistan, more like in the USA during the years of the prohibition. Finally also US Secretary of State, Mrs. Hillary Clinton admitted that without the demand for drugs in the US, Mexico would hardly face this kind of problems.

The illegal traffic of weapons and drug money from the US to Mexico is part of the problem. There are many interests involved which are beyond the control of the Mexican government.

But does all this really affect tourists visiting our country? How many tourists have been harmed in this fight? - Most people visit Mexico for leisure, to enjoy sun, sand and sea, but also for culture and business.

Tourism is focused on attractive destinations such as Baja California, the colonial heartland, the Pacific Riviera or the Copper Canyon and Mexican Caribbean due to its natural highlights. Border towns such as Tijuana, Ciudad Juarez or even Chihuahua are no destinations of mass tourism.

The ROYALE Group of companies with offices in Pto.Vallarta, Acapulco, Los Cabos, Cancun, Playa del Carmen, Merida and Mexico City has handled many thousands of tourists from all over the world during many years and rarely had any incidents with crime and drugs due to the fact that these tourists were well informed about the Dos and Don'ts when visiting Mexico.

Our guests got their information from their travel agents or tour operators or by us on arrival. On site we are available to assist the tourist in all cases of need. Organized tourism and over all group travel is by far the safest type of tourism because our professional guides always provide the guests with security recommendations in order to avoid problems.

However, people looking for trouble will find it, in Mexico as well as in any other country. My advice for all visitors to Mexico is to use their commun sense, take into account the general recommendations of security and overall avoid to get in conflict with the law. Then Mexico is a safe destination to travel.
