Golf tourism potential revived
Monday, October 04, 1999
Greece's enormous potential as a leading Mediterranean golfing destination will be driven home once again during a two-day presentation on Golf<.> Tourism in Greece slated to take place on Corfu on October 14 and 15 at the Grecotel Hotel Imperial in the resort of Kommeno, Corfu.
Organized by the UK-based company Golf Courts International and supported by the Hellenic Tourism Organization, the event aims to introduce the sport, which has yet to spark the wider public's interest, once more to the Greek tourism industry.
With some 11 million tourists visiting Greece annually, the local tourism industry is only now starting to recognize the advantages of developing this specialized tourism product and promoting it to the 34 million golfing enthusiasts around the world.
Considering its location in Europe and its warm climate, golf tourism offers the perfect opportunity for Greece to expand its tourism season beyond the six months of May to October, say the conference organizers.
