The International Center for Exhibitor and Event Marketing elects leadership for 2013

Members of The Center's board of directors are chosen for their experience and represent a broad cross-section of the exhibitions and events marketing industry. Directors help build policy and procedures through a genuine and cooperative working partnership within the board to benefit all members of The Center.

DALLAS – The International Center for Exhibitor and Event Marketing announces the results of its 2013 board of directors election. The Center’s officers, serving through December 2013, will be: Michael Lynn, CME, CMM, CMP, CEM, CPC (L-3 Communications) as chairman; Doreen Biela, CEM (Light Speed) as immediate past chair; and Barry Siskind (International Training & Management Company) as secretary.

“I am looking forward to the upcoming year and the new ideas and content that The Center will create to engage exhibit managers and event marketers,” notes Lynn. “It is truly an exciting and challenging time in the exhibitions and events industry and with the wealth of experience brought to the table by these leaders, we will refine our work and offerings for this market and continue to set the industry standards started under the extraordinary leadership from past chairs Doreen Biela, CEM and Kimberly Gishler, who have both helped shape this new organization.”

New to The Center’s board of directors are Diane Benson, CTSM (GE Healthcare); Glenda Brungardt, CTSM (Hewlett-Packard); Jeff Masters (Philips Healthcare); Joe Pulizzi (Content Marketing Institute); and Ian Sequeira (Exhibit Surveys, Inc.), whose terms expire in December 2014.

Diane Benson’s 20+ year career in trade show marketing spans both the exhibitor and supplier sides of this industry. Benson holds a degree in Business Marketing from the University of Phoenix, and she achieved her CTSM in 1996 and her Gold upgrade in 2007. Currently manager, Conventions at GE Healthcare, she oversees more than 40 trade shows and several corporate meetings and events annually. Benson is a long-time member of HCEA and TSEA, and is also vice president of HCEA for 2012-2013. She has previously spoken at TS2, Expo! Expo! IAEE’s Annual Meeting & Exhibition, EXHIBITOR Show, HCEA’s Annual Meeting, and the Pharmaceutical Meeting Planners Conference.

Glenda Brungardt joined HP in August of 1977 and has been in trade shows/events for the past 20+ years. She has served on many councils and task forces for HP trade shows/events and helped create and implement HP’s Global Performance Measurement Program. She has managed trade shows/events for almost every business at HP and is part of an HP-wide network of event marketing/technical professionals that deliver consistent brand, messaging, experiences, and execution of trade shows/events. She currently serves on multiple exhibitor advisory boards including: Exhibitor magazine, CES, Exhibitor show, BPA Worldwide’s Event Audits, IAEE Awards Committee and Events Task Force. She is a past board member for CEMA (Corporate Event Marketing Association) and advisory board member for Event Marketer magazine. She was named to the Event Marketer “Dream Team” in 2004 and received the Exhibitor magazine “All Star Award” in 2005. In March of 2008, she received her designation as a Certified Trade Show Marketer. She has received multiple HP awards and was most recently featured as one of the top Women in Event Marketing by Event Marketer magazine. She has spoken at the CEMA Summit, Exhibitor Show, Exhibitor FastTrak, TS2 Conference, Event Marketer Green Summit and Event Marketer Experiential Marketing Summit.

Jeff Masters has worked actively in all phases of the event industry for nearly 40 years. He attended Franklin & Marshall College during the ‘Revolution’ and trained in Set Design & Technical Theater at The Art Institute of Chicago’s Goodman School. Set design led to his first encounter with a trade show in Chicago in 1971. His accomplishments range from director of performing arts and public events for the City of Boston in the manner of ‘Summerthing’, ‘Concerts on the Common’, and ‘Boston 200’ public events in the mayor’s office in the mid-70’s, on to exhibit design and production as vice president and general manager of Fahey Exhibits through the hi-tech boom years of the 80s, to Masters & Company event project management for global clients throughout the 90’s and into the last decade with IBM in global roles managing business unit event strategy & measurement, and supply chain strategic sourcing of marketing services for IBM customers. Masters is currently a senior manager in Global Integrated Communications Group at Philips Healthcare and responsible for the North America portfolio, and customer experience & measurement globally.

Joe Pulizzi is a leading author, speaker and strategist for content marketing. Pulizzi is first and foremost a content marketing evangelist, and founded the Content Marketing Institute (a division of Z Squared Media, a 2012 Inc 500 Company), which includes the largest in-person content marketing event, Content Marketing World as well as Chief Content Officer magazine, the leading magazine for content marketers. Joe is also co-author of Get Content Get Customers (McGraw-Hill), recognized as THE handbook for content marketing, as well as Managing Content Marketing: The Real-World Guide for Creating Passionate Subscribers to Your Brand. Awarded “Custom Media Innovator of the Year” by American Business Media, Voted Who’s Who in Media Business by BtoB Magazine, Folio: 40, and recognized as the Most Influential Content Strategist via Lavacon, he travels around North America and Europe talking to marketers and business owners about how they are indeed publishers, and what they need to do about it.

Ian Sequeira has 27 years of experience in trade show and event industry research. He now heads up Exhibit Surveys, Inc. research operations, helping to develop the most extensive and effective corporate and organizer measurement programs offered in the exhibition industry. These include specialized research analytics, such as “fit analysis,” which measures the alignment of exhibitors and attendees at shows, new show feasibility, and psychographic segmentation of audiences. Ian has been instrumental, as well, in ESI’s international work, designing and managing research projects in Switzerland, Singapore, Australia, Japan, and Germany. Along with research, his responsibilities include overall company administration. He is a well-respected speaker and instructor for industry associations, and an active member in the International Association for Exhibition and Events™ (IAEE), Healthcare Convention Exhibitors Association (HCEA), and Marketing Research Association (MRA). He also contributes to Exhibitor magazine’s annual “Trade Show Trends” article. Sequeira serves on the HCEA and CEIR Research Committee and is also a member of the HCEA Education Committee.

The board of directors has been charged with setting the ongoing direction for the organization and building the invaluable foundation for the future of The Center. Directors concentrate on designing and creating methods and programming for education programs that truly complete the connection between exhibitors, event marketers, exhibition organizers and suppliers as each target audience further expands into the global marketplace.
