International air arrivals to Mexico increase by 7.1% in September

According to the Integrated System for Migration Operations (SIOM), an increase in the number of visitors from 125 nationalities was registered during September.

MEXICO CITY- The Mexico Ministry of Tourism reports that during the month of September, the arrival of international visitors by air to Mexico increased by 7.1% compared to the same month the prior year.

The number of travelers to Mexico by air during September from the US and Canada reported growth of 3.7% and 2.2%, respectively, compared to the same period last year.

The United Kingdom registered growth of 9.8%, Costa Rica, 109.8%; Russia, 103.1%; Venezuela, 61.7%; Israel, 49.5%; Panama, 46.5%; Chile, 38.7%; Argentina, 31.4%; and China, 28.9%.

Countries such as Japan also reported growth in the number of visitors to Mexico during September, registering growth of 22.4%; Peru with 20.9%; Colombia, 19.9%; and South Korea, 16.9%, compared to the same period the previous year.

During the first nine months of 2012, more than 8 million international visitors came to Mexico, a figure 6.1% higher than the same period the prior year.

During the period from January to September, an increase was reported in the number of visitors from 137 countries, most notably Russia with an increase of 87.3%; Guatemala with 48.5%; Venezuela with 47.9%; and Brazil, Costa Rica and Peru with 44.3%, 33.8% and 28.0 %, respectively.
