Hoteles Catalonia and Vueling join forces to create a new accommodation concept

The Hoteles Catalonia chain and Vueling Airlines have signed a strategic partnership agreement whereby Hoteles Catalonia will manage on an exclusive basis the new Vueling by HC hotels. The first establishment resulting from this alliance will open in downtown Barcelona during the first quarter of 2013.

The Vueling by HC brand is born
The agreement reached by the airline offering the largest number of routes from Barcelona and the city’s main hotel manager is centred on the Vueling brand licence and its establishment in the hotels owned by the chain.

Vueling BCN by HC will be the first hotel resulting from this new and interesting agreement, a project in which Hoteles Catalonia has invested 13 million euros.

Located in the central Gran Vía in Barcelona, the hotel will be the first one commercialised under the new Vueling by HC brand. The hotel will be operated and managed entirely by Hoteles Catalonia, but both companies will be involved in the design, interior decoration and commercialisation of the hotel, following the guidelines set by the brand image of Vueling Airlines, which licences the brand in exchange for a royalty and commissions linked to the bookings made.

This first hotel will be commercialised jointly and bookings may be made from the Vueling BCN by HC hotel’s website, from the Hoteles Catalonia website, from the Vueling website and from the reservation points that Vueling offers its customers.

A forward-looking agreement
Hoteles Catalonia and Vueling are planning to export the new and original concept of urban tourism to other cities including the main destinations of the airline. In order to complete this expansion, Hoteles Catalonia could incorporate the Vueling by HC brand which is now part of its portfolio, and it is also considering
opening new hotels in cities where it is currently not present. The company Take a part, which specialises in strategic alliances between brands, has been actively involved in the agreement between Vueling and Hoteles Catalonia.

Originality at the service of urban customers
The hotel Vueling BCN by HC is located at Gran Vía No. 550 in Barcelona and has 64 rooms of four different types: standard with and without balcony, top class with and without balcony, junior suite and a spacious suite with a private terrace and open air swimming pool.

Its unusual design is inspired by the original world created by Vueling, whose aesthetics can be seen in both the rooms and the communal areas. The bar restaurant re-creates to perfection the inside of a commercial aircraft, the multipurpose area intended for serving breakfast is reminiscent of a terminal, and the reception area simulates the check-in desks with their conveyor belts and information screens.

The original facilities are rounded off with a fitness area and an open air swimming pool with a solarium. The names of the 64 rooms are related to various Vueling destinations, Barcelona being the name given to the hotel’s main suite.

Vueling brand licence
This year Vueling has launched a renewed communication code aimed at projecting the current maturity and dimensions of the company without compromising the spirit of innovation that has always been its hallmark. Vueling thus opens a new line of business based on extending its brand to business projects that provide innovation opportunities in terms of concepts and
services for its customers and the clients of its licensees.
