Britons stay closer to home when it comes to going on holiday in 2013

In 2013 British holiday makers are generally choosing to take a break in the UK or Europe. London, The South East and South West of England seem to be particular holiday hotspots this year, as holidaymakers continue to enjoy the effect from last year’s Olympics and Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

HomeAway.co.uk, the UK’s leading holiday rental site with over 545,000 properties, today reveals that 90% of their top ten 2013 holiday destinations are on home shores and within Europe.

Whilst the site offers some amazing properties around the world, HomeAway.co.uk believes this new trend for holidaying close to home could be attributed to the uncertain economy, increase in flight costs, having to travel during the school holidays and people simply wanting to drive rather than fly to their destination.

London, The South East and South West of England seem to be particular holiday hotspots this year, as holidaymakers continue to enjoy the effect from last year’s Olympics and Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

Erica Chang, Regional Director for HomeAway.co.uk, said: “Our most recent data has shown that in 2013 British holiday makers are generally choosing to take a break in the UK or Europe. Whilst we offer a wide range of accommodation globally, there is no denying that costs are on people’s minds when it comes to booking a holiday and staying closer to home can bring down prices.”

She added: “This said, some people are of course still heading further afield, with Florida being a popular choice this year. By booking accommodation and flights well in advance, looking at tourist attraction discounts and travelling with family and friends there are ways to do this cost effectively and have a great time in fantastic properties in prime locations all over the world.”
