Visit the gastronomic capital of the world on Japan Journeys' Gourmet Tour

There is a maximum of 16 guests on this escorted tour and the group is accompanied by an experienced, Japanese-speaking guide at all times.

TOKYO – The MICHELIN Guide Tokyo Yokohama Shonan 2013 dished out its top rating of three stars to 14 Tokyo restaurants. The foodie ‘bible’ awarded 53 establishments with two stars and 175 eateries across Tokyo received one star ensuring that the city retained its title of the ‘World’s Gourmet Capital’.

Specialist tour operator Japan Journeys offers an 11-day escorted, gastronomic tour of Japan departing 12-22 October 2013 based on two sharing.

Highlights of the 11-day itinerary include a Japanese cookery class in Tokyo, a traditional tea ceremony experience in Nara, a sushi breakfast at Nishiki-koji – the world’s biggest fish market – as well as the opportunity to taste some regional specialities such as sukiyaki and kaiseki plus shojin ryori (monk’s food) at a Kyoto temple and a traditional o-bento on board Japan’s famous bullet train.

The tour also takes in the famous temples and shrines of Kyoto and Nara as well as beautiful Hakone, a mountain resort in the foothills of Mt Fuji, giving travellers the chance to experience a traditional onsen and the panoramic views and volcanic valleys of Owkudani .

The trips includes nine nights’ accommodation in Kyoto, and Hakone on a bed and breakfast basis; four lunches and seven dinners; a cookery class in Tokyo; transfers by private coach; travel on the Bullet Train, entrance fees for all named activities; a green tea ceremony at Daitoku-ji temple and the services of a knowledgeable Japan Journey’s guide throughout. International flights from London to Japan are also included.
