Golf Tour Operators to experience taste of Costa Brava

Attendees of 2013 International Golf Travel Market (IGTM) will have the opportunity to play PGA Catalunya Resort’s Stadium Course, Spain’s No.1 course for 2013, as well as European Top 100 ranked Empordà Golf with its 36-hole golf and hotel complex.

GIRONA, SPAIN – Tour Operators and travel agents attending the 2013 International Golf Travel Market (IGTM) this November are being invited to join dedicated familiarisation trips to the Costa Brava region following the golf travel trade’s most important event of the year.

The trips, organised by Costa Brava Tourism Board, November 15-18, 2013, will allow travel trade professionals to experience this North-Eastern region of Spain, its diverse golf courses, medieval towns and world-renowned gastronomy.

Attendees will have the opportunity to play PGA Catalunya Resort’s Stadium Course, Spain’s No.1 course for 2013, as well as European Top 100 ranked Empordà Golf with its 36-hole golf and hotel complex.

Other courses included in the two four-day itineraries include:

  • Club Golf d’Aro Mas Nou, which offers spectacular vistas from its 300m above sea-level perch
  • British-designed Golf Platja de Pals situated on the Spanish seafront
  • One of the region’s oldest courses, Club de Golf Costa Brava, that offers a good test for all standards of player
  • Golf Girona, the only course in Spain sown entirely with Penncross grass
  • Torremirona Golf Club that enjoys wonderful views of the Pyrenees
  • Club de Golf Peralada, the region’s northern-most course designed according to environmentally-friendly specifications
  • Par 3 Gualta, perfect for those looking to perfect their short game or for a quick and pleasant round

During the familiarisation trips, tour operators will also have the opportunity to sample Costa Brava’s world-renowned gastronomy and take part in cookery classes that will enable them to recreate some of Catalonia’s iconic dishes.

Said Ramón Ramos, director of Turismo de Girona: “For those who have previously visited the region, the trips will enable attendees to reconnect with IAGTO’s Emerging Golf Destination of the Year 2000, showcasing how Costa Brava has evolved over the years, from the opening of the new high-speed rail link that now connects the region to Barcelona, Madrid and the rest of Europe, to the successful real estate developments that are bucking the economic trend and attracting numerous foreign investors.”

As well as Barcelona and Girona-Costa Brava airports, the new high-speed (AVE) rail link was opened this year, connecting the region to Paris (5.5 hours) and the rest of Europe. Services to Girona and Figueres, the second city of the Costa Brava, and home to the Salvador Dalí Theatre Museum (which attracts 1.5 million visitors per year) were opened in 2011, with the extension to Barcelona allowing for the metropolis to be reached in just 37 minutes.
