PORTLAND, ORE. – Portland was the most expensive U.S. destination to rent a car this past summer. That finding is the result of a new survey from CheapCarRental.net, which compared 50 destinations across the United States. The car rental rates of each destination between the months of June and August 2013 served as the basis of comparison.

In Oregon’s most populous city, car renters had to pay an average of $86 per day for the cheapest available rental. That figure is slightly more expensive than the rate in New York City, which ranked second most expensive at an average of $83 per day. In the third costliest city on the survey, Boston, the most affordable car set back renters $75 daily, on average.
