Hostelling International and the ISIC Association have recently renewed their 20 year alliance, enabling holders of the International Student Identity Card to get increased access to 3,700 hostels worldwide, and a flurry of member discounts within the Hostelling International (HI) network. The aim of this deal – a global Memorandum of Understanding – is to outline joint opportunities for national Youth Hostel Associations and ISIC issuers to work together on a local level. A national agreement could be to produce a cobranded HI-ISIC membership card offering international students hostel access and discounts.
The ISIC Association is the non-profit organisation behind the International Student Identity Card (ISIC), which acts as the only internationally accepted proof of bona fide student status. The ISIC card was founded in 1953, with the aim to foster intercultural and international understanding through pioneering discounts that make travel and cultural exchange more accessible to students.
The card is endorsed by organisations and institutions such as United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO), the Andean Community of Nations and a wide range of national governments, ministries of education, student organisations and universities worldwide.
Just over five million bona-fide students in 127 countries worldwide are ISIC cardholders, who can gain access to more than 42,000 student benefits across the globe. ISIC benefits are available online and offline for all areas of student life like book stores, restaurants, cafes, museums, archaeological sites, national parks, accommodation, transportation, cinemas, theatres etc.
Hostelling International (HI) is a non-governmental, not-for-profit organisation representing 70 Member Associations and Associate Organisations all over the world. We work closely with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) and the World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO). HI has also been identified as the sixth largest provider of travel accommodation in the world.
