Jasper starts a full year of celebrations with the 25th 'Jasper in January' Festival

The Canadian Rockies' hottest winter festival will bring back many of the fan-favorite events for a milestone party.

Jasper, Alberta is officially getting into the party spirit and raising a toast to what promises to be its most exciting year. 2014 will see the Canadian Rockies outdoor playground mark a mountain of milestones and anniversaries with a series of ‘Jasper-style’ celebrations – starting with the Jasper in January Festival’s 25th anniversary!

The Canadian Rockies’ hottest winter festival will bring back many of the fan-favorite events for a milestone party, such as the Mountain Park Lodges’ Chili Cook-off, the Street Party, the stunning Walk of Lights and the ever-popular Firework Show.

The Jasper in January Festival has all the best of a Canadian winter covered. Think snow sculpting, skating, a winter pentathlon, live music, wine tastings, and even a polar bear dip for the brave.

Perfect for fun-seekers of all ages, the highly-anticipated January in Jasper Festival 2014 is guaranteed to be the very best yet. A full series of Jasper in January events will take place in and around Jasper from January 17th – February 2nd 2014.

Another cause for celebration is the ongoing 50th season of Jasper’s award-winning ski destination, Marmot Basin. A firm-favourite amongst ski and snowboard enthusiasts and renowned as one of the least crowded ski areas of its kind in North America, Marmot Basin is taking its celebrations and anniversary events to the slopes, remembering the last fifty years of mountain magic in Jasper.

Established in 1964, Marmot Basin is now hardly recognizable from its early beginnings. Since the days when Parks Canada first allowed the development of the ski hill and the ‘Yellow’ T-bar was installed, Marmot Basin’s 1,675 acres of superior ski terrain covered in the finest Rocky Mountains’ powder snow, has become a first choice for generations of snow-seekers – year after year.

Throughout 2014, Jasper will also celebrate 50 years of the Jasper Tramway and the 100th birthday of one of Jasper’s heritage buildings, the Visitor Information Centre. Jasper is welcoming local Jasperites and visitors alike to join in the celebrations, with a host of signature events and festivities planned throughout the ‘Jasper Celebrates’ year.

Mary Darling, CEO, Tourism Jasper, comments: “This is a unique time for Jasper as we approach a truly historic year of anniversaries. The many milestones we are marking throughout 2014 is giving Jasper and the many visitors it welcomes, the perfect excuse to recall their own Jasper memories and celebrate these different experiences with us. We’re very excited to start this party!”
