Family travel specialist reports 34% increase in family holiday spend this Easter

Average Easter holiday spend up £344 per family YOY; 43% increase in overseas holidays this Easter; Sudden shift in consumer behaviour driven by floods/economy as families ‘spend more to ensure less risk’.

In response to current travel trends showing family holiday spend is significantly up this Easter, pre-school family travel specialist Baby Friendly Boltholes’ Founder, Sian William, believes several recent factors have lead to a sudden shift in consumer behaviour.

We have seen a significant increase in the average holiday spend of young families holidaying this month, which is up 34% compared with this time last year, with families spending an average of £1,383 on their accommodation (hotel or villa) this April compared with £1,039 last year.”

The rise in holiday spend is largely being driven by families choosing to holiday abroad, with the number of overseas holidays being taken this month alone up 43% YOY. In addition, we have noticed significant growth within the luxury resort sector, which is up 63% YOY.  It seems people are paying more to have facilities such as kids club/creche and moving away from Independent properties, where the is perhaps a higher perceived risk in terms of quality.”

Over recent years, the economic uncertainly has lead consumers to do the exact opposite, with domestic market and independent overseas options proving much more popular.”

We believe that the sudden shift in consumer behaviour this Easter has largely been driven by increased consumer confidence in the economy combined with the wet winter and flooding throughout parts of the UK, which in turn, has lead many families to spend more to ensure less risk and have some guaranteed sunshine this Easter.”

Sian concluded: “We expect to see this trend continuing throughout the summer months, where many luxury family-friendly resorts overseas are already heavily booked.”

Baby Friendly Boltholes offers a range of stylish baby and toddler friendly accommodation in the UK and overseas. All Boltholes, including resorts and independently owned properties, within the collection have been vetted by a member of the Baby Friendly Boltholes team to ensure that they meet the needs of discerning young families in terms of style, attention to detail and facilities.
