Frankfurt Airport welcomes China Southern Airlines

Starting June 24, China’s largest air carrier flies thrice weekly from Frankfurt to Guangzhou – Inaugural flight greeted with “Water Gateway” and celebrations.

On Tuesday, June 24, China Southern Airlines (CZ) inaugurated its new thrice weekly air service between Guangzhou (CAN), China, and Frankfurt (FRA) – Germany’s largest aviation gateway and a partner city of this metropolis located in the Pearl River delta region of southern China. The afternoon flight departs on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from Frankfurt at 14:15 local time for Guangzhou – with a stopover in Changsha (CSX), central China, a brand new passenger destination in the FRA global network.

Fraport AG’s executive board chairman Dr. Stefan Schulte commented about FRA’s new airline: “Today’s arrival of China Southern Airlines means Frankfurt Airport is also being served by China’s largest carrier now. The new connection underscores the attractiveness and importance of the Frankfurt hub – thus confirming the demand for our forward-looking capacity expansion implemented at Germany’s largest airport. With the addition of Guangzhou and Changsha in its global route network, Frankfurt Airport can offer passengers a choice of two new passenger destinations via Germany. We wish China Southern Airlines ‘always Happy Landings!’”

On the new route, China Southern will operate Airbus A330-200 jets featuring a four-class configuration for about 250 passengers. Flight CZ 331 to FRA (CZ 332 in the other direction) will have a total travel time of about 19 hours for the entire Guangzhou–Changsha–Frankfurt journey.

At FRA, passengers taking flight CZ 332 to Changsha and Guangzhou check in at Hall D (counters 815-820) in Terminal 2.

Founded in 1991, China Southern Airlines (CZ) is based in the southern Chinese megacity of Guangzhou (formerly known as Canton). China Southern Airlines is the largest airline in the People’s Republic of China – in terms of the size of its fleet and route network as well as the number of passengers carried. The CZ fleet currently comprises some 500 passenger and freight jets including the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, 777, 757 and 737. In addition, China Southern deploys the world’s largest passenger plane, the A380, and other Airbus A330, A321, A320 and A319 aircraft types.

China Southern Airlines belongs to China Southern Air Holding Company (CSAH), a Chinese aviation conglomerate, and has been a member of the SkyTeam airline alliance since 2007. CZ provides more than 1,930 flights per day to 190 destinations in 40 countries and regions worldwide. In cooperation with the other SkyTeam members, China Southern offers a global route network with 1,024 destinations in 187 countries and regions, including most of the world’s metropolises.
