World Cup or bust: U.S. interest to Brazil surges as team USA continues World Cup play

During the first week of the World Cup, U.S. travel interest to Brazil for the second round of World Cup play climbed 6%, when compared to the week before the tournament began.

Portugal’s last-minute rally against Team U.S.A. on Sunday may have prevented the American squad from sailing smoothly into the second round of the 2014 FIFA World Cup, but the tie match didn’t extinguish Americans’ soccer dreams! Hotel search trivago.com analyzed U.S. travel interest to both Brazil and Rio de Janeiro (location of the World Cup final match) and found that U.S. soccer fans are more interested than ever in traveling to Brazil for the second stage of the tournament (June 30 – July 13).

During the first week of the World Cup, U.S. travel interest to Brazil for the second round of World Cup play climbed 6%, when compared to the week before the tournament began. During the week of June 16-22, when Team U.S.A. beat Ghana and tied with Portugal, interest in traveling to Brazil during the same period jumped by 11%.

Dramatic double-digit increases to Rio de Janeiro
An even more striking surge can be seen when analyzing travel interest to Rio de Janeiro, the host city for the World Cup final. During the first week of the tournament, U.S. interest in going to Rio between June 30 and July 13 rose by 29% and soared by 41% in the second week of the World Cup; despite Team U.S.A’s tie with Portugal and upcoming match with powerhouse Germany on Thursday.
