Opening of new waterside facility and groundbreaking on Superyacht Marina take place less than two weeks apart.
BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS – Upscale new tourism developments on St. Kitts continue to develop this month with the opening of the SALT Plage beach bar and the groundbreaking for the superyacht marina, both located at Christophe Harbour on the island’s southeast peninsula. Taking place less than two weeks apart, these milestones herald the island’s shift toward the luxury market.
“I am extremely pleased with the progress that Christophe Harbour is making in developing facilities that are helping to shape this world-class resort area,” said Senator Ricky Skerritt, Minister of Tourism & International Transport. “These two events demonstrate clearly that we are advancing in accordance with the strategic direction of our tourism plan toward attracting more affluent visitors to St. Kitts.”
Located at Whitehouse Bay and having debuted the second week of June, SALT Plage offers barefoot luxury via its beach bar and dock facility. Welcoming visitors arriving by sea or by land is a pier stretching 82 feet into the bay that offers 1,450 square feet to dock tenders, and draws guests in from the sea with an inviting spread of loungers. Though the amenity itself is modern, its roots are historic, with the name a firm nod to the thriving salt export business which occupied the site in the 1940s. The John Denton Haley-designed facility is striking; incorporating the foundations of the old salt warehouse. Charter guests will have their pick of spot to watch a Caribbean sunset while they enjoy the best of the bar’s open air design. SALT Plage is already delighting guests with innovative cocktails, and Christophe Harbour’s signature seaside living with soul approach.
Last Friday, a groundbreaking ceremony was held in celebration as the first piles of the superyacht marina at Christophe Harbour were driven home. This marks the beginning of Phase One of the construction, which will include more than 800 linear feet of bulkhead and the 24-slip “A” dock, which will accommodate superyachts up to 220 feet. Construction is expected to be complete late 2014, and the marina will welcome vessels in early 2015. The full-service marina and village with nightlife, dining, shops, and boutique accommodations will ensure Christophe Harbour’s status as a premier destination and a homeport experience unique to the region.
With 2,500 acres and six secluded beaches on the southeastern peninsula of St. Kitts, Christophe Harbour is the premier island hideaway for discerning travelers. This residential development is planned to boast an unparalleled superyacht marina and village in 2014, luxury Park Hyatt, St. Kitts in 2015, and must-play Tom Fazio championship golf course in 2017.
Both the opening of SALT Plage and marina groundbreaking follow closely on the heels of the soft opening of the island’s Private Terminal with YU Lounge at RLB International airport, which took place in May, and the soft opening of Kittitian Hill, which is scheduled for December.
