Sunrise Airways one step closer to launching new service to Jamaica

Port-au-Prince based airline granted designation to operate new flights between Haiti’s capital and Kingston.

PORT-AU-PRINCE, HAITI – Sunrise Airways announced that it has been formally designated by the Haitian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to operate new flights between Port-au-Prince and Kingston, Jamaica, an important step forward in its quest to expand its route network throughout the Western Caribbean.

“While we still have a few technical and regulatory hurdles to clear, this designation puts us in a strong position to launch service to Kingston within the next three months,” said Philippe Bayard, President of Sunrise Airways. “For business travelers with interests in both cities, as well as leisure travelers keen on discovering the unique cultural, fine arts, dining, and nightlife attractions in two of the Caribbean’s great capitals, this new service will prove ideal.”

Haiti’s newest homegrown airline, Sunrise Airways inaugurated scheduled passenger service on December 20, 2012. The carrier enjoyed a strong first year in operation, launching both domestic and international routes from Port-au-Prince and Cap Haitien as part of a comprehensive strategy to better connect the Western Caribbean. For 2014, Sunrise plans to spread its wings even further.

“We’ve had our eyes on Kingston for quite some time now, but our expansion plans for 2014 don’t stop there,” noted Bayard, who expressed confidence that Sunrise would be spreading its wings to several other parts of the Caribbean throughout the balance of 2014.

Sunrise Airways will deploy 19-seat Jetstream 32 EP aircraft on its new Port-au-Prince- Kingston service, providing ample head- and legroom, plus the added comfort of refurbished cabins and fresh upholstered seating. An official launch date, as well as schedule and pricing information for the new Sunrise Airways flights between Port-au-Prince and Kingston will be announced in the coming weeks.
