STR reports Americas, EMEA hotel pipeline for June

The Europe hotel development pipeline comprises 904 hotels totalling 145,465 rooms, according to the June 2014 STR Global Construction Pipeline Report. Among the countries in the region, the UK reported the most rooms under contract with 41,831 rooms.

There are 3,183 hotels totaling 383,527 rooms under contract in the United States, according to the June 2014 STR Pipeline Report. This represents an 11.6-percent increase in the number of rooms under contract compared with June 2013 and a 39.1-percent increase in rooms under construction. The rooms under contract data includes projects in the In Construction, Final Planning and Planning stages but does not include projects in the Unconfirmed stage.

Among the Top 26 Markets, New York, New York, reported the most rooms under construction in June (14,049), a 26.1-percent increase over June 2013. Three other markets reported more than 2,500 rooms under construction: Houston, Texas (4,530 rooms, up 166.6 percent); Miami/Hialeah, Florida (2,709 rooms, up 117.4 percent); and Anaheim/Santa Ana, California (2,604 rooms, up 178.5 percent).

The Caribbean/Mexico hotel development pipeline comprises 163 hotels totaling 27,690 rooms. This represents a 19.2-percent increase in rooms under contract, compared with June 2013, and a 22.5-percent increase in rooms under construction. The total rooms under contract include rooms in the In Construction, Final Planning and Planning stages but do not include rooms in the Unconfirmed stage.

Among the countries in the region, Mexico reported the most rooms under construction with 8,069 rooms. Four other countries reported more than 300 rooms under construction: the Bahamas (2,706 rooms); the Dominican Republic (817 rooms); Puerto Rico (471 rooms); and St. Kitts/Nevis (245 rooms).

The Central/South America hotel development pipeline comprises 400 hotels totalling 65,479 rooms. The total under contract data includes projects in the In Construction, Final Planning and Planning stages but does not include projects in the Unconfirmed stage.

Among the countries in the region, Brazil reported the most rooms under contract with 44,100 rooms. Four other countries reported more than 2,000 rooms under contract: Colombia (4,893 rooms); Panama (3,631 rooms); Argentina (2,771 rooms); and Chile (2,437 rooms).

Among the countries in the region, the United Kingdom reported the most rooms under contract with 41,831 rooms. Five other countries reported more than 4,000 under contract: Russia (25,024 rooms); Germany (17,653 rooms); Turkey (12,818 rooms); Italy (4,527 rooms); and France (4,306 rooms).

The Middle East/Africa hotel region reported 614 hotels Under Contract totalling 143,870 rooms. The Under Contract data includes projects in the In Construction, Final Planning and Planning stages but does not include projects in the Unconfirmed stage.

Among the countries in the region, the United Arab Emirates (17,137 rooms) and Saudi Arabia (15,415 rooms) reported the most rooms under construction. Six other countries reported more than 2,000 rooms under construction: Qatar (5,985 rooms); Jordan (3,241 rooms); Morocco (2,466 rooms); Egypt (2,379 rooms); Algeria (2,166 rooms); and Iraq (2,082 rooms).
