Get active at Costa Navarino – New sports activities

Guests looking to soak up the sun well into the autumn months can opt now for an active holiday at one of the two luxury five-star hotels located at Costa Navarino’s first resort area, Navarino Dunes: The Romanos, a Luxury Collection Resort or The Westin Resort Costa Navarino.

From the brand new rock climbing experience to water skiing and wakeboarding at the Bay of Navarino, along with yachting and diving while exploring fascinating historical and natural sites, Costa Navarino – the prime sustainable destination in Greece’s southwest Peloponnese – has a range of sporting activities available, with these latest additions further cementing the wide offerings. At the destination, there’s also the opportunity to immerse into the Olympic spirit, through the partnership with the Hellenic Olympic Academy that was recently launched. Costa Navarino will be further spreading the message of the Olympic values and ideals.

Activities include golfing, hiking, bike trekking, yachting and diving, combined with visits to local ancient sites, all to be enjoyed at a relaxed pace in an unspoiled natural setting. Recent additions to the offering include rock climbing at Proti islet as well as water skiing and wakeboarding at the spectacular Bay of Navarino. All the above can be complimented by trying out one of the many racquet sports on site, like tennis, squash and badminton.

Water aficionados have a range of options at their fingertips. Diving and snorkelling fans can explore a variety of dive spots with Aqua Divers Club accompanied by PADI certified instructors. As well as discovering Mediterranean marine life, guests are educated in the region’s conservation efforts to protect the marine life. The nearby Proti islet offers advanced and beginner divers the chance to explore an impressive WW2 wreck in shallow waters. For keen yachters, half-day and full-day yachting excursions are available.  Led by a skipper and crew they take intimate groups to idyllic islets only reached by boat, including Sfaktiria island and the Shiza islets where guests can go ashore, swim in the crystal clear waters and learn about secluded hideouts once used by notorious pirates. New offerings include water skiing and wakeboarding at the Bay of Navarino, amidst a historic setting looking out to the picturesque town of Pylos.

New outdoor activities include a climbing experience, to be explored either inside or out. The indoor climbing wall at Navarino Rocks has a range of climbing challenges perfect for both beginners and the more advanced. For outdoor climbing aficionados, Proti islet offers guests a scenic setting on this rocky uninhabited island, and the chance to cool down afterwards in the crystal clear Ionian Sea. Cultural hiking tours explore Ancient Olympia, the birthplace of the Olympic Games, followed by an indulgent Greek lunch.

Cycling excursions enable guests to discover nearby attractions, including Gialova Lagoon, a nature reserve home to 271 recorded bird species and widely known for its rich flora and fauna, before continuing to the village of Gialova for a traditional lunch among a setting of olive groves by the seaside. If a morning of ‘bike fitness’ is more appealing, guests can join an experienced bike guide to build up the muscles while exploring the area’s natural beauty. The famous Voidokilia beach, which is considered one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, is only a short bike ride away…

A unique golf experience comes in the form of the two awarded signature golf courses, The Dunes Course and The Bay Course, ideal to enjoy the sport that is being re-introduced at the 2016 Olympics. Designed by former US Masters Champion and Ryder Cup Captain Bernhard Langer together with EGD, the 18-hole par-71 enjoys sea, river and olive grove views. The 18-hole par-71 Bay Course designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. offers a golf challenge for all abilities, playing along the historic Bay of Navarino. For beginners, lessons are available at the fully equipped Golf Academy.

Whether it’s trekking the winding paths or picking up the pace on a bike, the rich history, coupled with the stunning natural beauty and culture of the Messinia area is sure to revitalise the mind, body and soul.
