Sharjah tourism hosts Suhoor Banquet for hotel industry representatives

The number of hotel rooms in Sharjah has increased to around 10,000 with the Emirate receiving more than 1.9 million tourists last year. The number is expected to go up this year as work develops on new hotel facilities.

SHARJAH – HE Khalid Jasim Al Midfa, Director General, Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority has reaffirmed his commitment to working with the hotel industry, which has been witnessing strong growth with increasing number of tourists, at a Suhoor banquet hosted at Al Majaz Waterfront for the hotel industry representatives, SCTDA staff and members of media.

Al Midfa said that it was events like these that gave the Authority an opportunity to strengthen relations with industry partners and encourage community spirit between the management and staff of the Authority – away from the routine of daily work.

The SCTDA Director General said he was delighted with joint success achieved to-date between government and private sectors, evidenced through the delivery of major events and international festivals as well as participation in international tourism exhibitions and roadshows.

Al Midfa said that this has been an eventful year with the Emirate hosting a series of international festivals, special events and cultural and recreational activities as part of the Sharjah Islamic Culture Capital 2014 celebrations, reflecting the distinct cultural identity and heritage of the Emirate. He emphasised that the efforts and support of the tourism industry partners played a major role in the success and growth of sector and development of Sharjah’s tourism product.
 
The Suhoor dinner was held at Al Majaz Waterfront which is one of the Emirate’s most popular landmarks and includes a number of cultural and recreational activities for families. The animated fountains which stretch for more than 220 meters and combines laser and light, video and sound and motion to create a unique experience are always a huge hit for visitors. A large number of families and tourists gather at Al Majaz Waterfront in evenings to watch the traditional firing of cannon at the time of Iftar during the holy month of Ramadan.
