Dorchester Collection wins four awards at the HR Excellence Awards

An esteemed judging panel including a selection of well respected current and former HR directors and CEOs selected the industry winners.

Dorchester Collection is the first hospitality company to be presented with four awards at the 19th Annual HR Excellence Awards, hosted by HR magazine. Dorchester Collection has been awarded Outstanding Employee Engagement Strategy, Best HR Team, HR Director of The Year, and the most sought after HR Excellence Gold Award.

HR magazine is the largest industry publication in the field positioned towards people-focused, forward-thinking business leaders looking to develop high-performing organisations. Their annual HR Excellence Awards celebrates industry leaders across all industries who achieve the highest standards in employee relations.

An esteemed judging panel including a selection of well respected current and former HR directors and CEOs selected the industry winners. Editor of HR magazine, Arvind Hickman, said, “This was a very exciting year for the HR Excellence Awards highlighting the best practice in HR across a variety of sectors. In particular, the hospitality industry shone by claiming five awards. Dorchester Collection collected four of these – the first hospitality company in the history of the awards to win four categories in one year. Receiving these awards is a true testament to Dorchester Collection’s focus on their employees and their continued efforts in team performance.”

The four awards won by Dorchester Collection are:

  • HR Excellence Gold Award – Dorchester Collection: This award cannot be applied for and is considered the most prestigious as it is awarded to the organisation which has been most successful that year. Judges commented “Dorchester Collection prides itself on providing guests with a superior service, but it is the way the luxury hotel group treats its staff that has taken this year’s HR Excellence Awards by storm”, adding that “It is their hands on and personable approach that shines through not only in HR service delivery, but in creating an unforgettable guest experience”.
  • Outstanding Employee Engagement Strategy – Dorchester Collection: This award reflects how engaged employees are linked to business strategy, creating a more productive, customer-focused and profit generating team.
  • Best HR Team – Dorchester Collection: Judges commented on how the Dorchester Collection HR team ‘has a hands on approach, tasked with reducing staff turnover, increasing talent mobility and improving employer branding, employee engagement and customer satisfaction.’
  • HR Director of the Year – Eugenio Pirri: HR magazine calls for nominations for the HR Director of the Year after which they select a shortlist of HR directors with exceptional skills and achievements during the period 2013 – 2014. The shortlist is then voted for with only one vote per company allowed. It was commented “Eugenio’s popularity spreads well beyond his own hotel chain. He received wide backing across the industry as a HR director of great character and skill.”

Commenting on the awards Eugenio Pirri states: “I am very happy that our team has received these awards and proud to be part of Dorchester Collection. To work alongside colleagues with such integrity and passion for what they do on a daily basis is a rarity and to be recognised for these efforts by fellow peers within HR is an honour.”

Following receipt of these awards, Dorchester Collection’s director of organisational performance, Ana Brant, comments: “Our strategy is a science. In science everything has a cause and an effect; however the relationship between the two is often ignored. This is where the art of engagement begins.”

Dorchester Collection’s UK properties have also enjoyed recent recognition with Coworth Park being awarded the second best place to work in the UK and 45 Park Lane claiming the 20th best place according to Caterer & Hotelkeeper’s ‘30 Best Places To Work In Hospitality’.
