LONDON – Hotel prices in Edinburgh have increased by 36 per cent during the Festival Fringe, according to hotel search website trivago.co.uk.
The Edinburgh Festival Fringe, which runs from 1st to 25th August this year, is the world’s largest arts festival, welcoming thousands of performers to hundreds of stages annually. This year, an overnight stay in Scotland’s capital will cost an average of £196 – a 36 per cent increase from an average of £144 per night during July.
The most expensive day to book is Saturday 16th August, when one night will cost an average of £232. The cheapest is the final day (Monday 25th), when one night will cost £158 on average.

Denise Bartlett, UK Public Relations: “Although these prices are high, they are modest when compared to the recent price increases in Glasgow for the Commonwealth Games, or the annual New Year’s Eve price hikes in Edinburgh.”
“Prices increased by 158 per cent during the Commonwealth Games in nearby Glasgow, to an average of £344 for one night. For the most recent Hogmanay, prices were up by 360 per cent to an average of £455 on the 31st December 2013.“
“In comparison, £196 seems fairly reasonable. Hoteliers have been subjected to online criticism for these price hikes, particularly during the Commonwealth Games. Perhaps Edinburgh hoteliers realised it would be unfair to raise prices for a full 24 days.”
