Hotel Prices Increase by up to 308%
The worst offender is Ibiza, where prices in Playa d’en Bossa have more than quadrupled from an average of £79 per night during April to £322 during August.

Also showing large price hikes are Protaras in Cyprus (up 259 per cent to £323 per night), Ibiza’s Santa Eulalia (up 191 per cent to £268), Ibiza’s San Antonio (up 157 per cent to £126), Majorca’s Cala d’Or (up 145 per cent to £142) and Majorca’s infamous Magaluf (up 129 per cent to £165).

Unsurprisingly, Protaras, Playa d’en Bossa and Santa Eulalia are the most expensive destinations this month. Marbella (average of £199 per night during August) and Ayia Napa (£167 per night) complete the list of top five most expensive destinations during August 2014.

27 Out of Top 50 Most Popular Destinations Located in Spain
The 50 most popular summer destinations during August 2014 show that Spain holds a monopoly on the UK travel industry. Seven of the top ten and 27 of the top 50 are Spanish destinations, with seven located in Majorca.

Denise Bartlett, UK Public Relations: “Although it is normal for hoteliers to raise their prices during peak season, it is interesting to see by exactly how much prices increase and which destinations are the worst offenders. When compared to April of this year, before the peak season began, 12 out of the 50 most popular destinations have more than doubled their prices.

Considering the monopoly Spain holds among UK holidaymakers, it is unfortunate to see Spanish hoteliers raising their prices by so much. Out of the ten largest price hikes, seven are Spanish destinations, with three located in Ibiza and three in Majorca.
