Opa-locka Executive Airport project earns national award for outstanding design and construction

Local construction management firm Lemartec earns top industry recognition.

MIAMI – One of several new developments at Opa-locka Executive Airport (OPF) has earned national recognition for outstanding construction. Local construction management firm Lemartec was named to Varco Pruden Buildings’ 2014 Hall of Fame in the transportation category for designing and building the new aircraft hangar at OPF for Miami Executive Aviation. The facility, which is now owned by Landmark Aviation, opened in the fourth quarter of 2013 and includes nearly 40,000 square feet of hangar space capable of accommodating large corporate jets, as well as 5,600 square feet for offices and support areas.

Lemartec executives visited Miami International Airport yesterday to present Miami-Dade Aviation Department (MDAD) Director Emilio T. González with a plaque commemorating the achievement, the latest good news at the County’s largest general aviation airport. The new $4.7 million Landmark Aviation facility represents a portion of $133.9 million in recent private investment at Opa-locka. New facilities at the airport include high-end fixed-base operator (FBO) private jet terminals, upgraded ramp areas and a gasoline station. The investments are part of a long-term program that calls for more than $475 million in private investment at OPF.

“Congratulations to Lemartec for earning national industry recognition for the new Landmark Aviation facility at Opa-locka Executive Airport,” said González. “Their award-winning work is a benefit to our valued customers and it’s just the latest reminder of the incredible things that are happening at OPF as a result of strong private investment and sound public management.”

According to Lemartec, the annual Hall of Fame competition “recognizes independent authorized Varco Pruden builders whose work reflects outstanding integration of building systems, products, architectural appearance, end use and design.”  More than 1,000 builders across the United States and Canada are part of the Varco Pruden network.
