EMEA hotel pipeline for July

Among the markets in the European region, Greater London, England, reported the largest number of rooms under construction with 5,110 rooms. The Middle East/Africa hotel region reported 630 hotels Under Contract totalling 147,754 rooms.

LONDON – The Europe hotel development pipeline comprises 910 hotels totalling 145,244 rooms, according to the July 2014 STR Global Construction Pipeline Report. The Under Contract data includes projects in the In Construction, Final Planning and Planning stages but does not include projects in the Unconfirmed stage.

Among the markets in the region, Greater London, England, reported the largest number of rooms under construction with 5,110 rooms. Seven other markets reported more than 1,000 rooms under construction: Istanbul, Turkey (4,798 rooms); Moscow, Russia (3,301 rooms); Greater Amsterdam, Netherlands (2,020 rooms); Hamburg, Germany (1,678 rooms); Greater Berlin, Germany (1,315 rooms); Greater Munich, Germany (1,127 rooms); and Vienna, Austria (1,093 rooms).

The Middle East/Africa hotel region reported 630 hotels Under Contract totalling 147,754 rooms. The Under Contract data includes projects in the In Construction, Final Planning and Planning stages but does not include projects in the Unconfirmed stage.

Among the Chain Scale segments, the Upper Upscale segment account for the largest portion of rooms Under Contract in the region (36.4 percent) with 53,794 rooms. Three other segments each made up more than 10.0 percent of rooms Under Contract: the Upscale segment (18.6 percent with 27,431 rooms); the Luxury segment (18.5 percent with 27,264 rooms); and the Unaffiliated segment (13.9 percent with 20,577 rooms).

The Upper Upscale segment made up the largest portion of rooms under construction (37.3 percent with 25,337 rooms), followed by the Luxury segment (21.4 percent with 14,559 rooms) and the Upscale segment (19.8 percent with 13,485 rooms).
