FIBES and Seville welcome the ICCA European Workshop

Seville’s Meeting Point, which won over San Sebastian (Spain), Innsbruck (Austria) and Basel (Switzerland), was visited by this important group of decision-making clients and European Conference Centres.

Seville Conference and Exhibition Centre, FIBES, and Seville held, ICCA’s (International Congress and Convention Association’s) European Workshop, which is relevant worldwide and a reference in Meeting and Congress Tourism. The Workshop was held from 11th to 13th September 2014.

ICCA is one of the international leading associations in Meeting Tourism, proof of which is the importance of the cities hosting its Workshop and its professional meetings for sectors and destinations, both in Europe and all over the world.

Seville, with the invaluable support of Seville Convention Bureau (SCCB) and Seville’s Town Council, has thus become the most suitable venue for this important professional European meeting with the participation of 15 European Conference Centres as well as 15 large conference decision-makers, members of European Associations’ Board. These clients were selected according to very specific, demanding criteria and so it can be assumed that they are highly influential, outstanding decision-makers in this field.

This group of 30 persons, including European Conference Centres and Conference decision makers, apart from holding several work sessions in FIBES, attended the presentation of Destino Sevilla (Destination Seville) and visited FIBES facilities.

They also took part in a complete activity programme including their visit to emblematic sites of the city such as the Real Alcazar (Royal Palace), the Cathedral, Giralda and outstanding buildings like the Navigation Pavilion and Metropol Parasol, among others.

FIBES was chosen as the most suitable venue to host ICCA’s European Workshop because of several reasons, among which we can point out: its being one of ICCA’s active members; its participation in the meetings in Leipzig (Germany) 2007 and Helsinki (Finland); its candidacy project based on its strong Environmental and Sustainable Policy, which are included in the Agenda of the meeting starting today, as well as its CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) Scheme, these issues being prominent and highly valued by all stakeholders in the sector nowadays.

In this sense, Seville has achieved its goal by winning out over other important cities which also took part in the contest to hold this meeting such as San Sebastian (Spain), Innsbruck (Austria) and Basel (Switzerland).

Without a doubt, this has been a really productive, profitable meeting for the Capital of Andalusia and moreover for the Meeting and Congress Tourism sector. This meeting held in FIBES will have an impact on the economy and public image of Seville which will accordingly extend to sectors like accommodation, taxi, public transport, shops, bars and restaurants. It will also reinforce the city as a meeting point for large congress events and as one of the leading cities in the group of Great Cities in the World.
