The Valencia Conference Centre hosts the 40th Annual Meeting of the Spanish Nuclear Society

The specialist scientific and technological content of this meeting is part of the Valencia Conference Centre’s strategy to attract major national and international events to the venue, thus establishing the city of Valencia as a meeting point for the scientific and business community.

The Spanish Nuclear Society has chosen the Valencian venue to hold its 40th Annual Meeting, which coincides with the organisation’s 40th Anniversary. Over 600 industry experts will be attending the event to share the latest developments in nuclear energy.

From 1st October, the Valencia Conference Centre will be hosting the Spanish Nuclear Society (SNE) Congress. Over three days, the meeting will bring together over 600 experts from Spain and abroad, who will be updating their knowledge of the industry, and getting a first-hand insight into the upcoming challenges facing the sector. On this occasion, the meeting also coincides with the SNE’s 40th Anniversary, which makes the event more significant, not only in terms of its considerable scientific interest, but also because of its track record and the important role it has played in the society’s history.

The Spanish Nuclear Society is a not-for-profit association, which works to serve a common public interest, and whose main aim is to disseminate scientific and technological knowledge on nuclear issues.

Around 30 companies working in the national and international nuclear industry will be represented at the meeting. In parallel to the congress, these companies will also be presenting their products and services at an exhibition held on the Conference Centre’s premises. This congress takes place in a different city every year, and has not been held in Valencia since 2002. The meeting includes a scientific and technical programme, as well as current issues which will be up for debate. Participants in the event will include institutional representatives from the city council and regional government, as well as speakers explaining the Chinese nuclear programme and the latest developments in storing electricity. Discussion will also analyse new initiatives, recent advances, and the outreach of the nuclear energy industry, whose uses range from business services, the manufacture of equipment and fuel, through to scientific research in universities. In fact, the Valencia Conference Centre has already been privy to one of the most important applications of this industry in medicine, through events it has staged, such as the Nuclear Science Symposium and Medical Imaging Conference, and the 29th Congress of the Spanish Nuclear Medicine Society.

The congress organisers have also planned activities for the general public, such as a basic nuclear science and technology course, given by the SNE’s Young Nuclear Scientists Committee, which will be open to all the Valencian Region’s students for the duration of the event. In the week before the meeting, the same course will be given to journalists who wish to broaden their knowledge of the subject. In addition, the venue will also be hosting the Women in Nuclear (WiN) Conference, entitled “The new electricity bill”. WiN is an association made of up women working professionally in various fields of nuclear energy and radiation applications.

The specialist scientific and technological content of this meeting is part of the Valencia Conference Centre’s strategy to attract major national and international events to the venue, thus establishing the city of Valencia as a meeting point for the scientific and business community. In 2014 alone, 67 new bids have been put forward for events scheduled up to 2019, and the Centre has won 17 bids for events that will lead to 33,000 overnight stays, generating a direct and indirect impact of around €18 million.

The activities scheduled at the venue in 2014 include 34 congresses, of which over 60% are international events. These meetings will be attended by over 22,000 visitors, generating an economic impact three times higher than the income obtained from an average tourist.
