Gatwick Airport Vehicle Security Systems completed by Chemring Technology Solutions

Chemring Technology Solutions has helped Gatwick Airport to develop its new vehicle screening infrastructure, deploying VehicleScan in a new four lane vehicle screening facility to monitor the high volume of airport traffic, including staff, maintenance and catering vehicles.

POOLE, ENGLAND – As part of Gatwick‘s major upgrade investment in its road-to-airside security gates, Chemring Technology Solutions has completed a multi-lane, underside vehicle search system based on its VehicleScan surveillance technology.

Chemring Technology Solutions has helped Gatwick Airport to develop its new vehicle screening infrastructure, deploying VehicleScan in a new four lane vehicle screening facility to monitor the high volume of airport traffic, including staff, maintenance and catering vehicles.

Replacing the mirror on a stick approach, VehicleScan will improve detection rates of prohibited articles and explosives, allowing vehicles to access airside more effectively and efficiently.

VehicleScan is the world’s most advanced under vehicle surveillance solution, using high-resolution line-scan technology to deliver full colour images of the underside of a vehicle with millimetre-scale detail. Using Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR), VehicleScan will cross check each vehicle against the airport database to ensure all vehicles are approved to access the airfield. ANPR will also enable Gatwick Airport to report on vehicle queue times, which can then be used to improve the efficiency of staffing rotas, as well as better understand who is on and off site.

VehicleScan is part of the wider Site Security Solutions available from Chemring Technology Solutions, which also includes CCTV, standalone ANPR, and site access control equipment.
