Two AIP grants contribute to airfield infrastructure improvements.
DFW AIRPORT, TEXAS – Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport has received two grants for infrastructure improvement from the Federal Aviation Administration totaling $15 million dollars. The Airport Improvement Program (AIP) grants will be used for the rehabilitation of a taxiway and for the purchase of new equipment and infrastructure at DFW’s Terminal B.
“We want to thank our partners at the FAA for these needed infrastructure improvement grants,” said Sean Donohue, chief executive officer at DFW Airport. “We would also like to thank Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson and Congressman Kenny Marchant for their continuing support of the Airport.”
The larger grant of $13 million will fund Phase 2 of the three-phase rehabilitation project for Taxiway L (Lima), which is already underway.
An additional $2 million grant which will fund new and environmentally friendly pre-conditioned air units used to cool jet boarding bridges, and the electrical infrastructure needed to operate those units, has come from the Voluntary Airport Low Emission (VALE) program of the AIP.
“For many years I have supported our local infrastructure, including DFW Airport, and I am pleased that FAA has awarded these grants,” said Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson, (D) Texas 30th District. “It is timely that DFW Airport has received funding for these infrastructure improvements and I look forward to seeing how these changes will positively affect our region.”

Kenny Marchant, (R) Texas 24th District. “I am honored to represent DFW Airport in Congress and look forward to the positive impacts these improvements will have on air travel and job creation in North Texas.”
“We are especially grateful for the VALE grant which helps us further contribute to lowering the emissions of the Airport,” said Jim Crites, executive vice president for operations at DFW Airport. “Replacing aging equipment with more efficient and cleaner operating equipment allows us to help improve air quality for the Dallas/Fort Worth area.”
The FAA’s Airport Improvement Program provides grants for the planning and development of public-use airports. For large hub airports such as DFW, the grant covers 75 percent of eligible costs for the specific projects awarded.
