Turkish Airlines renews telecom deal with SITA

SITA to act as airline’s sole network services provider for seven more years.

ISTANBUL – Turkish Airlines has selected air transport IT specialist, SITA, to provide telecommunications services for 120 outstations around the world in a multi-million dollar renewal deal. SITA will act as the airline’s sole network services provider globally for seven more years, connecting the airline’s outstations, departure control systems and passenger service systems to facilitate efficient passenger processing and on-time departures.

Speaking at the Association of European Airlines’ Annual General Meeting in Istanbul, Ahmet Bolat, Chief Investment and Technology Officer of Turkish Airlines, said: “Our primary aim is to become one of the most preferred air carriers by continuing to upgrade and improve the passenger experience. To do that, we primarily need to ensure excellent communications among all our sites to further enhance the satisfaction of our customers. We’ve partnered with SITA for more than 15 years because they offer us high-quality, high-availability telecom coverage for all our outstations and back that up with excellent service and support.”

SITA will provide a variety of telecommunications services for Turkish Airlines. This includes IP VPN, which facilitates IP connectivity among the airline’s main hubs and virtual private network from anywhere around the world, and AirportHub, which provides network access through WAN communication and IT infrastructure at airports.

Turkish Airlines will also benefit from Express IP, an IP connection for customers of shared equipment at airports, and SITA’s Integrated Performance Reporting Service, a single intelligent monitoring tool, which will allow the airline to see all its networks at the same time. All network services will be fully supported by SITA’s global customer service team, which includes more than 2,000 dedicated aviation IT specialists and engineers in over 200 countries and territories.

Hani El-Assaad, President of SITA Middle East, India and Africa, said: “Turkish Airlines is a rapidly expanding airline, and SITA’s high-quality, high-availability network will help provide a solid foundation for continued growth. Our extensive network covers 95% of all international destinations, so we are well positioned to support the airline as they continuously expand.”

Last year Turkish Airlines achieved 23.6% growth in passenger numbers in comparison with 2012 and carried approximately 50 million passengers. The carrier currently flies to 43 domestic destinations and 217 international destinations with a fleet of 265 aircraft. At the 2014 Skytrax Passenger Choice Awards, Turkish Airlines was voted Europe’s Best Airline for the fourth consecutive year.
