LeDomaine developing ultra-luxurious El Santuario Spa with Bespoke vinotherapy concept and dirst ‘Spa Sommelier’

El Santuario, Abadia Retuerta LeDomaine’s new spa, will open its doors in summer 2015 featuring 10,000-sq.-ft. of ultra-luxurious facilities.

SARDON de DUERO, SPAIN – Abadia Retuerta LeDomaine, the exclusive abbey hotel and winery dating from 1146 in Spain’s Duero wine region, is transforming the estate’s former stable into a nurturing and innovative sanctuary of holistic healing and wellness.

El Santuario, Abadia Retuerta LeDomaine’s new spa, will open its doors in summer 2015 featuring 10,000-sq.-ft. of ultra-luxurious facilities, a ground-breaking vinotherapy concept, and the spa industry’s first “Spa Sommelier.”

“El Santuario will be one of Europe’s great spas, offering the highest levels of luxury, guest service and individualization,” said Managing Director Andres Araya. “We are breaking new ground in personalization with the introduction of a Spa Sommelier and treatment programs based on a blind tasting ritual.”

The Spa Sommelier is a highly specialized professional who will deliver an unprecedented level of guest service and customization based on a bespoke vinotherapy method. He will conduct a “blind tasting ritual” for each guest, comprising smelling a selection of oils and tasting several wines or other beverages. The Spa Sommelier will then analyze their palette and aroma preferences and recommend spa experiences to fulfill their individual wellness needs. Not only the tasting ritual but the entire spa experience at El Santuario will simulate the traditional wine-tasting experience.

The spa at Abadia Retuerta LeDomaine will feature four individual treatment rooms and a Spa Suite equipped with everything from a Finnish sauna and a steam bath to an experience shower and hydrotherapy pool. There will be separate, beautifully appointed ladies’ and men’s changing areas. Guests will be immersed in soothing organic colors reflecting the hues of the surrounding natural terrain, and relax in comfortable, ergonomic, high-quality wood and fabric furniture. Large skylights will bathe the spa in natural light, exuding a warm and comforting atmosphere. An indoor heated pool will be complemented by an outdoor pool among the vineyards.

The menu will embody the two personalities of Abadia Retuerta LeDomaine:  the classic property with a 900-year-old history, and the vineyards that produce acclaimed wines. Classical treatments and services – massages, body scrubs, body wraps, facials and grooming – will be blended with authentic, indigenous rituals based on the wine traditions of the local region and LeDomaine’s award-winning winery. Guests may indulge in their favorite treatments that are familiar and soothing, or opt for innovative vinotherapy-inspired experiences that are spirit-lifting and energizing.

Setting the table for enhanced wellness and healing will be tantalizing Spa Cuisine. Nutritious, healthy and light, it will complement the spa experiences as well as be mouth-watering. The menu is being created by Pablo Montero the hotel’s Head Chef, in conjunction with his mentor, Andoni Luis Aduriz, who is one of Spain’s superstar chefs and restaurateurs as well as LeDomaine’s Gastronomy Manager.

El Santuario will be one of the most energy-efficient and sustainable spas in Spain. A system with state-of-the-art technology uses solar panels and groundwater pumps to generate energy for heating and cooling. Geothermal storage systems compensate for the seasonal fluctuations in energy demand. A dedicated water-treatment plant allows water to be recycled and used for irrigation.

To develop the spa, the architect came up with an ingenious concept to overcome the high moisture level of the soil due to the proximity of the Duero River. The problem was solved by designing an impermeable “shoe box” structure and building the spa inside of it.
