Morgans Hotel Group welcomes its newest 'Morgans Original' property with the opening of 10 Karakoy

The original building, formerly known as Buyuk Balikli Han, was built in 1875 by architect Ariditi Razi and includes six floors with a glass roof over a large atrium.

NEW YORK – The newest property and first international franchise in Morgans Hotel Group Co.‘s portfolio of boutique hotels, 10 Karakoy, a Morgans Original (“10 Karakoy”) opened its doors. Located in Karakoy, one of the most vibrant and burgeoning districts in the heart of Istanbul, the 71-guestroom property offers an intimate, luxury boutique experience where history meets modernity. Built in neo-classical style, the historic property has been reimagined, restored and designed in collaboration with award-winning Turkish architect Sinan Kafadar.

With 10 Karakoy, Morgans Hotel Group opens its first property in Istanbul and fourth in Europe.

The result is a stunning homage to Istanbul’s vibrant cultural heritage. The original building, formerly known as Buyuk Balikli Han, was built in 1875 by architect Ariditi Razi and includes six floors with a glass roof over a large atrium. In collaboration with Morgans Hotel Group and Kafadar, the hotel has maintained the building’s original characteristics in keeping with its historical significance and modern approach to design. Guests arrive through the main entrance into the glass-roofed atrium with marble underfoot. The vaulted ceilings soar above a stunning water feature with bronze fish, a nod to the original name of the building.

Further reflecting Ottoman architecture, the rooms on the guest floors have been lined in porticos featuring ceilings formed of the protected original old brick. The 71 distinctive guestrooms, including three spacious suites and three rooms with magnificent private terraces, span a wide variety of room categories from Standard Queen to Penthouse. Each room features custom designed furniture by Kafadar, down duvets and pillows, Malin + Goetz bathroom amenities, Samsung® LED televisions, docking stations, 24-hour room service and complimentary Wi-Fi.

“The opening of 10 Karakoy, a Morgans Original, on the heels of the successful openings of Mondrian London and Delano Las Vegas, continues our commitment to delivering template-breaking development,” said Jason Kalisman, Interim CEO of Morgans Hotel Group. “Istanbul is a vibrant city and Karakoy is a neighborhood that helps define the city’s energy and excitement – and we look forward to welcoming guests to our newest home in Turkey.”

In addition to its guestrooms and suites, the hotel also includes an 82-seat restaurant called Rudolf. Emphasizing the seasonality of ingredients native to Turkey, Rudolf features refined Mediterranean Cornucopia Cuisine with a respect to “slow food.” The restaurant’s exquisite surroundings combine with contemporary harmony in the design, offering a beautiful space to enjoy breakfast, lunch and dinner. The restaurant features a large Turkish wine collection, in addition to a list of top international, award-winning wines from around the world. Other social spaces within the hotel include Rudolf Bar and Sky Terrace. Rudolf Bar, bringing together Morgans Hotel Group’s sophisticated and seductive ethos with the vitality and energy of Istanbul, debuts hand-crafted cocktails made with fresh ingredients and a carefully curated menu. Sky Terrace is the destination’s newest nightlife experience, offering guests panoramic views of the Bosphorus and old city; a perfect spot for couples or friends to relax and have fun. With a retractable roof and heated floors, DJ’s will play year round to local and international crowds.

Accompanying the food and beverage offerings, the hotel features 785 square-feet of meeting space with its Balikli Meeting Room, providing luxury options for corporate meetings and special events for up to 60 people. The Balikli Meeting Room includes state-of-the-art A/V systems and LCD Projector capabilities for all meeting needs, in addition to extensive in-house catering and banquet options.
