Cape Air flying high with implementation of Amadeus’ full Altea technology portfolio

New IT systems will enable one of the largest regional carriers in the US to better deliver passenger service while best managing reservations, inventory, departure control, business intelligence and e-commerce processes.

MIAMI, FL and HYANNIS, MA – Amadeus, a leading technology partner for the global travel industry, and Cape Air, a Massachusetts-based regional airline, announced that the carrier has successfully implemented the full Amadeus Altea suite of next generation IT solutions to manage its reservations, inventory, departure control, business intelligence and e-commerce processes.

“This is truly an important moment in Cape Air’s history. It was not that long ago we eschewed technology until we were forced to rethink how we could balance new security requirements with our cultural style. It was then that we realized that emerging technologies, combined with our entrepreneurial spirit, could translate to a passenger experience that was still unique and afforded convenience,” said Linda Markham, President, Cape Air. “We are excited to take Cape Air forward and, with the implementation of Altea, we are continuing the tradition of providing the best possible customer experience, while building a technological foundation that will provide unlimited possibilities.”

Markham said Cape Air’s selection of Altea was a result of the enhanced flexibilities and customer capabilities associated with the solution as well as Amadeus’ successful track-record powering the IT of many of the world’s biggest and best airlines. Altea’s responsive design elements will enable Cape Air’s customers to easily book and check their flight reservations and access mobile boarding passes by logging on to the carrier’s Altea-powered website using any device. The new technology will also enable the carrier to roll out its first-ever loyalty program to reward frequent travelers. And Cape Air is among a growing number of airlines recognizing the important role of specialized data analytics. The carrier will be using the Amadeus Travel Intelligence Engine, a cloud-based platform which delivers the business intelligence and data insights to better understand and operate their passenger and business operations. In the coming months, the carrier also plans to implement additional Altea features including self-service check-in capabilities.

Preparations for the Altea migration have been underway for six months but full system cutover took place November 14-15. All Altea passenger services systems went live across a 36-hour period in a “big bang” cutover with no disruption to Cape Air’s passengers or airline operations. Markham said about 80% of the airline’s employees have been involved in the Altea implementation, backed by Amadeus expert airline IT teams from the US and around the world.

“Welcoming Cape Air to the growing number of airlines currently powered by our Altea suite is a testament to how carriers view the future of flying and the critical role played by technology,” said Scott Gutz, President and CEO, Amadeus North America. “We couldn’t be more pleased that our innovative and uniquely integrated Altea solution will provide Cape Air with the right tools and resources needed to drive continued growth, improve operational efficiencies and deliver an enhanced experience for its customers.”

As one of the largest regional carriers in the U.S. with up to 525 flights per day and 1,200 employees serving Cape Air’s customers, the carrier provides service to 44 cities across five regions including the United States, Caribbean and Micronesia. Over the past five years, Cape Air has experienced significant growth, adding more than 19 cities to its expanding list of destinations.

Amadeus is a leader in delivering innovative, flexible airline IT solutions that serve the full spectrum of airlines of all sizes and types – from network to mid-size and smaller to low cost carriers. Amadeus’ leading new-generation Amadeus Altea Customer Management Solution (CMS) portfolio is based on a pioneering community platform concept. This enables improved operational efficiency and increases revenue. Worldwide, over 140 airlines have contracted for the Altea Reservation module, over 130 airlines are using or will use Altea Inventory and more than 115 airlines have or are moving to Altea Departure Control, making Amadeus the established global market leader in passenger service systems.
