New research issued by ABTA shows the increasing popularity of holidaying in the winter months amongst British people. Whilst winter sun remains the most popular holiday choice, the research shows that winter sports holidays are on the increase again with 18% planning a holiday in the mountains. This is up from 10% in 2012 and represents the fastest growing segment within the sector.
Ski Solutions, UK’s leading ski specialist and luxury winter sports operator, has seen a sharp increase in bookings for the 2014/15 season reflecting ABTA’s findings.
Craig Burton, Managing Director of Ski Solutions, comments: “Ski Solutions has had an excellent start to the season with bookings up 26% year on year. Like ABTA, we have seen the return of many ‘lapsed-skiers’ who didn’t take a winter sports holiday for several years due to the economic climate. With the economy recovering, many of these skiers are booking a ski holiday for the first time in several years.
Good early-season snow in a number of resorts in Europe and North America has also contributed, and we have seen a 30% increase in enquiries for travel in December, with ski-hungry British holidaymakers snapping up the last few beds for Christmas and New Year.”
