Golf course designer Tom Weiskopf part of 3m. renovation at The Country Club of St. Albans

Golf courses, pool and clubhouse will be upgraded by the fall of 2015.

ST. ALBANS, MO. – The Country Club of St. Albans announced a major three million dollar golf course and country club renovation. PGA Tour professional and an award-winning golf course designer Tom Weiskopf and his company have been commissioned to renovate the award-winning Lewis and Clark golf course. The Lewis and Clark renovation project is already underway and is scheduled to be completed by spring of 2015. Among the many course upgrades that will be applied: an improved drainage system, each bunker will have new state-of-the-art lining technology and Bunker White Sand from California. This unique sand is only featured on a few of the top courses around the country, including the TPC of Scottsdale – Stadium Course. These course improvements will provide a brilliant contrast to the dramatic backdrops that The Country Club of St. Albans offers.

“When I first saw the property I felt this was one of the most visually stunning sites that I have ever had the opportunity to work on,” said Tom Weiskopf. “If you look at the course and the site as a whole, it is a true gift from nature. With this renovation, our overall goal was to make the course more playable and enjoyable for the membership and improve it aesthetically with the scheduled changes and upgrades to the existing design and new bunkers.”

Tom Weiskopf and his partner Jay Morrish created the award winning Lewis and Clark course in 1991. Mr. Weiskopf believes the improvements and upgrades, will allow for The Country Club of St. Albans to be “a great venue, to host a professional golf championships.” The Lewis and Clark course was the chosen venue for the USGA National State Team Championship in 2009, and has also hosted the St Louis Metropolitan Amateur Golf Association’s Open Championship each year since 2006. This event attracts some of the top men’s amateur golfers in the region as well as a good number of emerging touring professionals – some of whom have recently graduated to the PGA Tour, such as Scott Langley.

“The Lewis and Clark Course has provided a stern test to the Metropolitan Open field for nine years,” said Curt Roe, the Executive Director of the Metropolitan Amateur Golf Association (MAGA), “Over the last couple of years, professionals have commented on how The Country Club of St. Albans is one of the best facilities to which they have had the opportunity to compete. With the renovations taking place, the MAGA should be able to push the challenge of this course and Championship to new heights.”

“We are ecstatic about the project, and greatly appreciate the membership’s commitment to improve these already spectacular championship courses,” says Bill Maynard, the director of Golf Course Maintenance at The Country Club of St. Albans and a National Director with the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America. “When this renovation is complete, The Country Club of St. Albans will have the best 36 hole facility in the Midwest.”

In addition to the renovations on Lewis and Clark, The Country Club of St. Albans will be renovating the award-winning Tavern Creek golf course, which is also one of Golf Digest’s Top Courses in Missouri. There will also be major improvements to the pool and already stunning clubhouse, as The Country Club of St. Albans solidifies its commitment to remain a premier invitation-only, private country club.
