Virgin Hotels reveal New York property designs

Virgin Hotels New York is expected to break ground in early 2015.

Virgin Hotels and owner/developer Lam Group, have revealed building designs for their first project together in New York City. Located on the southeast corner of 30th Street and Broadway in the NoMad neighborhood, Virgin Hotels New York is expected to open in 2017.

VOA Architecture has been enlisted as the architect and interior designer, to oversee the development of the new structure with the Virgin Hotels design team, which includes a block long high-end retail space, 475 guest rooms, multiple concept suites, food and beverage outlets, rooftop bar plus an outdoor pool and spa. The property is expected to break ground in early 2015.

Virgin Hotels CEO, Raul Leal, said, “We are ecstatic to partner with Lam Group and VOA to bring New Yorkers a dynamic new hotel that’s aesthetic will be completely unique to the hotel scene, yet functional and intuitive for everyone. The property will be a ground-up development designed to support business and leisure traveler’s needs and wants, while providing an active spot for locals. It will be the perfect venue to encourage creativity, connectivity and celebrating.”

VOA Architecture NY Managing Principal, Len Cerame states, “The 38-story hotel is a unique site and design opportunity for VOA, with a massing that expresses the hotel’s internal functions including active rooftops as well as a staggered cantilevered facade that enhances room views on all four sides. Virgin Hotels New York’s distinctive look is sure to play a key role in the neighborhood’s transformation process.”

Virgin Hotels has a pipeline of properties in the works including Virgin Hotels Chicago, which is slated to open January of 2015 and Nashville in the summer of 2016. Virgin Hotels continues to explore properties in cities such as Boston, Dallas, Los Angeles, Miami, Austin, Seattle, San Francisco, Washington DC, and London; locations where it is pursuing hotel and office conversions and ground-up development.

Virgin Hotels Introduces “The Know”
Virgin Hotels also announces the launch of The Know a hotel preference program. Members of the program will receive personalized service and recognition, and be the first in “the know” about what is happening with Virgin Hotels and its partners.

To become a member of The Know, guests need to visit virginhotels.com. A short questionnaire gives guests the ability to share their pet peeves, allergies, even their dog’s favorite treat. Plus their cocktail and snack of choice, and what should and should not be found in their mini bar.

Enrolled guests will also receive special benefits such as:

  • Prearrangement of activities before arriving at hotel
  • Complimentary room upgrades (based upon availability)
  • Exclusive offers on rooms, food and beverage, and brand partnerships (including other Virgin companies)
  • Invitations to special events at Virgin Hotels
  • Birthday, anniversary and special occasion surprise and delights

Virgin Hotels’ first property will open January 15, 2015 in Chicago, and located in the heart of the Loop district in the historic Old Dearborn Bank Building at 203 N. Wabash Ave. The 27-story Art Deco building, a Chicago landmark designed by C.W. and George L. Rapp Architects in 1928, will offer 250 guest rooms, or as we call them Chambers, including 40 one-bedroom suites and two penthouse suites. Additionally, the hotel will feature meeting spaces, restaurants, lounges and other public areas that reflect the Virgin brand’s stylish and functional legacy.
