During November, airports welcoming more than 25 million passengers per year (Group 1), airports welcoming between 10 and 25 million passengers (Group 2), airports welcoming between 5 and 10 million passengers (Group 3) and airports welcoming less than 5 million passengers per year (Group 4) reported an average adjustment +5.0%, +7.6%, +3.0% and +5.0%.
BRUSSELS – European airport trade body, ACI Europe released its traffic report for November. The report is the only air transport report which includes all types of civil aviation passenger flights: network, low cost and charter.
In November 2014, passenger traffic at Europe’s airport grew by +5.3%. More specifically, passenger growth at airports in the EU reported a strong result of +5.3% year-on-year. At non-EU airports in Europe (including Iceland, Norway, Russia, Switzerland & Turkey), passenger traffic grew by a near identical +5.4%.
Olivier Jankovec, Director General of ACI Europe said “November figures confirm the trends observed since the summer, with passenger traffic now growing at the same pace at both EU and non-EU airports. Traffic at EU airports continues to significantly outperform economic growth with Greece, Luxembourg, Belgium, Ireland, Romania, Portugal and Croatia all posting double digit passenger growth figures – mainly driven by low cost airline traffic.”
He added “Meanwhile, non-EU airports are now seeing a traffic slowdown at Russian airports as well as on-going traffic losses in Ukraine and to a lesser extent in Israel. Passenger traffic at airports in Moldova, Serbia, Iceland and Turkey keeps growing dynamically – with Istanbul-Ataturk airport becoming for the fourth time, the third busiest European airport behind London-Heathrow and Paris-Charles de Gaulle.”

For the month of November, the airports which reported the highest increases in passenger traffic are as follows:
- GROUP 1: Istanbul IST (+12.8%), Rome FCO (+10.6%), Madrid (+9.3%), London LGW (+5.7%), Moscow DME & Amsterdam (+5.4%)
- GROUP 2: Athens (+27.5%), London STN (+25.8%), Brussels (+18.2%), Istanbul SAW (+15.4%) and Lisbon (+14.3%)
- GROUP 3: Heraklion (+14.4%), Izmir (+13.5%), Berlin SXF (+13.2%), Milan BGY (+12.7%) and Porto (+12.4%)
- GROUP 4: Santorini (+69.0%), Chania (+67.0%), Kefallinia (+58.5%), Chisinau (+43.9%) and Bourgas (+41.5%)
The ‘ACI Europe Airport Traffic Report – November 2014’ includes 207 airports in total representing approximately more than 88% of European air passenger traffic.
