Aeromexico, American Airlines announce new Miami – Monterrey flights

Hub carrier American Airlines also adding Barranquilla service.

MIAMI – Miami International Airport will add its first new international destination of 2015 when Aeromexico begins daily nonstop flights between Miami and Monterrey, Mexico on March 26. MIA hub carrier American Airlines has also announced new service between the two cities, with six weekly flights scheduled to begin on June 4. Also on June 4, American will launch daily nonstop service to Barranquilla, a city of 1.9 million on Colombia’s Caribbean coast.

One of Latin America’s most prosperous cities, Monterrey is a major business hub and home to numerous multinational corporations. It represents Miami’s fifth Mexico destination, joining Cancun, Cozumel, Merida and Mexico City. Aeromexico will operate the route from their Monterrey hub using a 76-seat Embraer 170 aircraft, while American Airlines will employ an Airbus A319. American’s new service to Barranquilla, a port city and established regional capital, will also employ the Airbus A319.

“Congratulations to our partners at Aeromexico and American Airlines on their plans to launch new international service to Monterrey, as well as additional Barranquilla flights,” said Miami-Dade Aviation Director Emilio T. Gonzalez. “With each new international destination, Miami’s economy, stature and global connections grow, and that’s all good news for our community.”

MIA currently offers ninety-six weekly Mexico flights, a total that will grow to 109 by June. In addition to the new Miami-Monterrey service on Aeromexico and American Airlines, Thomas Cook Airlines is set to begin direct service to Manchester, England in May, and American will add flights to Frankfurt, Germany the same month.
