At this year’s ITB Career World visitors can make direct contact with the personnel managers of leading tourism companies and find out about the latest job vacancies – a perfect chance to move up the career ladder. The meeting place in Hall 11.1 for those seeking a job or career in the tourism and hospitality industries is sponsored by the trade magazines AHGZ and fvw. At the ITB Career World visitors can benefit from the careers advisory service and from tips for job applicants. The five-day programme of stage events will also have advice on how to plan a career, how to market oneself as well as on mentoring programmes.
From 4 to 8 March 2015 those interested can meet the representatives of companies from every sector of the tourism industry and personally meet prospective employers. Exhibitors at the ITB Career World include Europa-Park Freizeit- und Familienpark Mack OHG, Grand Hotel Heiligendamm, Adina Hotel Operations GmbH, DER Touristik, Hilton Berlin, Motel One, Sheraton Munich Westpark Hotel, Club Mediterranee, Booking.com, Sohohouse Berlin GmbH, Die Jugendherberge gGmbH and Enterprise Rent a Car.
On the ITB Career World stage the personnel managers and COOs of leading tourism companies will be talking about important topics regarding careers and professional training. Thus, on 5 March 2015 at 11 a.m. Jurgen Gangl, chairman of Hoteldirektorenvereinigung Deutschland (HDV) and the Hoteldirektor Park Inn next to Radisson Berlin Alexanderplatz will be speaking about ’First-class education: the approval seal for outstanding professional training – the benefits to trainees, companies and the industry’. At 11.25 a.m. Michael Albert, chairman of Familotel AG, will be talking about ’Careers in family-run businesses – the prospects working for small and medium-sized proprietor-owned hotels’. At a panel discussion on the topic of ’Crises, tourism and the debate surrounding Islam’ Klaus Hildebrandt, chief editor of fvw; Huseyin Baraner, secretary general of the InterDialogue Institute; Thomas Bosl, managing director of RT Reisen; Jasmin Taylor, managing director of JT Touristik, as well as an Egyptian tourism executive, will be discussing the importance of intercultural fluency. At 1.30 a.m. Igor Simonow, the founder and boss of HolidayPirates, will be talking about how to start up a business while still studying.
On Friday, 6 March at 11 a.m. Mario Pick, a member of the presidium of the Food & Beverage Management Association (FBMA), and Michael Mucke, COO Accor Hospitality Germany GmbH, will be presenting their new development concept for young professionals in the hospitality industry. At 11.50 a.m. Nicole Kassem, director of Human Resources, Grand Hyatt Berlin, will be showing what the personnel managers of premium international hotel brands need to look out for in applicants. At 1.30 p.m. editors Evelyn Sander and Ira Lanz will be presenting the findings of an exclusive fvw employers’ survey. In this survey students, trainees and tourism industry newcomers rated travel industry companies. On Saturday, 7 March, on the ITB Career World stage, Wibke Rissling-Erdbrugge of WRE Training will be giving tips for career starters and young professionals. At 1.05 p.m. she will be giving a talk on how to market oneself and take one’s career into one’s own hands. Afterwards, Jan Herrmann, operations manager of Jugendherberge GmbH, will be talking about ’ways to start a career with Deutsches Jugendherbergswerk’.
Rounding off events on the topic of careers and training on Sunday, 8 March will be the DEHOGA trade association. During the morning Gerrit Buchhorn, deputy general manager of DEHOGA Berlin, will be talking about career-related topics such as the project entitled ‘Celebrate your strengths’, and will be presenting an online tool for discovering one’s strengths as well as the ’Quality training’ initiative.
