Focus on business: TUR is not open to everyone

TUR has tightened the requirements for those wanting to visit the trade days. Business Travel & Meetings Forum targets travel managers and buyers of business travel, meetings and conferences at national and international companies. Exhibitors are organisers, suppliers, conference centres etc.

“Everyone wanting to take part must register in advance and get an OK from us,” says Farhad Kakavand, business manager for TUR at the Swedish Exhibition& Congress Centre.

Much has changed at TUR 2015. “TUR is no longer a general venue. On the trade days we’re instead arranging three different niche venues for distinct target groups,” explains Farhad.

The three venues are:

  • The Swedish Visitor Industry Conference, 18-19 March
  • Scandinavian International Travel Meet (SITM), 19 March
  • Business Travel & Meetings Forum, 19 March

The Swedish Visitor Industry Conference is the first of its type and targets all players in the Swedish visitor industry. To take part you have to buy a ticket at besoksnaringskongress.se by 13 March. “Otherwise we can’t guarantee a place,” clarifies Farhad.

Scandinavian International Travel Meet is purely an outbound fair. Exhibitors are foreign destinations, hotel chains, airlines etc. Visitors are everyone who books and packages travel: travel agencies, bus tour operators, travel managers, event bookers etc. on the Scandinavian market.

To visit SITM you have to have an invitation. Alternatively you can register your interest at tur.se/sitm and buy a ticket by 16 March (only prebooked SITM cards are valid). But those belonging to the exhibitor category cannot buy an admission ticket.

“You have to have the right profile: exhibitors should exhibit and buyers visit.”
“If you’re a hotel chain or destination, for example, but don’t have a stand, you can’t expect to be admitted as a visitor.”

Farhad emphasises that SITM is about doing business. By registering in time you will also have access to the matchmaking service for booking business meetings.

Business Travel & Meetings Forum targets travel managers and buyers of business travel, meetings and conferences at national and international companies. Exhibitors are organisers, suppliers, conference centres etc. The concept is based on matchmaking and prebooked meetings. Anyone wanting to take part must register their interest at tur.se/bt by 6 March.

As can be seen, the trade days are totally transformed. On the other hand, TUR’s large Travel Fair, which takes place from 20–22 March, is much the same as ever. This year’s theme is foodie experiences and an active lifestyle.

“People in the industry are naturally also welcome to buy a ticket, but are reminded that the fair targets the end-consumer, not B2B,” emphasises Farhad.
