STR reports Caribbean/Mexico, Central/South America hotel pipeline for May

Caribbean/Mexico region reported 12,252 rooms in 66 hotels under construction for the month. Central/South America region reported 29,631 rooms in 184 hotels under construction for the month.

There are 173 hotels totaling 30,128 rooms Under Contract in the Caribbean/Mexico region, according to the May 2015 STR Construction Pipeline Report. This represents a 5.2-percent increase in rooms Under Contract compared with May 2014 and a 6.2-percent year-over-year decrease in rooms under construction. The Under Contract data includes projects in the In Construction, Final Planning and Planning stages but does not include projects in the Unconfirmed stage.

The region reported 12,252 rooms in 66 hotels under construction for the month.

Among the region’s key markets, Central Mexico (2,841 rooms) reported the largest number of rooms under construction, followed by Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico (2,262 rooms).

Central/South America hotel pipeline
There are 438 hotels totalling 68,898 rooms Under Contract in the Central/South America region. This represents a 4.6-percent increase in rooms Under Contract compared with May 2014 and a 21.6-percent year-over-year increase in rooms under construction. The Under Contract data includes projects in the In Construction, Final Planning and Planning stages but does not include projects in the Unconfirmed stage.

The region reported 29,631 rooms in 184 hotels under construction for the month.

Among the region’s key markets, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, reported the largest number of rooms under construction with 3,842 rooms. Sao Paulo, Brazil (1,370 rooms), was the only other market to end the month with more than 1,000 rooms under construction.
