WestJet launches new Atlantic services

Airline's regional arm WestJet Encore connects more cities.

CALGARY – WestJet will launch new daily non-stop flights from Halifax Stanfield International Airport to Deer Lake and Gander, Newfoundland, and Sydney, Nova Scotia, on board WestJet Encore’s fleet of Canadian-made Bombardier Q400 NextGen aircraft. The airline will also inaugurate new daily non-stop service between Moncton, New Brunswick, and Ottawa.

“These new flights represent our continuing commitment to expand WestJet service to smaller-sized cities from coast to coast, offering Canadians lower airfares, more choice and greater connectivity to our growing domestic, transborder and international networks,” said Chris Avery, WestJet Vice-President, Network Planning, Alliances and Corporate Development. “In fact, our new flights to and from Halifax represent the single largest increase in service since we began serving the city in 2003. With its fleet of 78-seat turboprop aircraft, WestJet is uniquely positioned to serve new cities and routes, and increase frequencies to existing communities.”

WestJet will also increase frequency between Halifax and St. John’s from twice to three times daily, and between Halifax and Ottawa from once to twice daily.

“Today, as we welcome WestJet Encore to Halifax Stanfield, we mark another air service milestone for our community,” said Joyce Carter, Halifax International Airport Authority President and CEO. “This new service strengthens the connections within Atlantic Canada and beyond, providing travellers with more options than ever before, and demonstrates WestJet’s confidence in Halifax and all of Atlantic Canada.”

Members of WestJet Rewards have the opportunity to earn extra WestJet dollars this summer when flying from Halifax, Sydney, Gander, Deer Lake, Moncton, Ottawa and Toronto. For more information, please visit westjet.com.

New daily non-stop service between Calgary and Houston begins September 8, 2015, while new twice-weekly service between Abbotsford and Las Vegas launches October 29, 2015.
