The upgraded privileges of UnionPay cards in summer vacation cover near 1,000 merchants

More than 14 million merchants and 1.2 million ATMs in 150 overseas countries and regions can accept UnionPay cards.

SHANGHAI, CHINA – UnionPay International announced that it will initiate the preferential program over 40 business areas worldwide, according to which the exclusive privileges of UnionPay cards (card number starting with 62) up to 10% discount will be launched by near 1,000 merchants in 21 countries and regions globally, covering more than 10 shopping centers, 12 discount villages and 20 landmark department stores. Such exclusive privileges will last until Nov. 20, 2015.

More than 14 million merchants and 1.2 million ATMs in 150 overseas countries and regions can accept UnionPay cards. UnionPay International chooses the most famous shopping centers, high-street designer-label shops, unique hotels and other places frequently visited by tourists overseas to create the concept of core commercial circles. In addition to those traditionally Summer tourist destinations as Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, Korea, Southeast Asia, Europe and Australia, the business areas distributed among newly-emerging tourists destinations as UAE, Turkey and Russia also appear on the preferential list, which may satisfy the more abundant travelling demands of cardholders.

With regard to the selection of concrete business areas and merchants, UnionPay International combines with the tendency of outbound tourism by cardholders more accurately. For instance, as an increasing number of people prefer to visit Japan, UnionPay International has selected 10 hot business areas locally for cardholders, which cover 400 merchants. In the meantime, UnionPay International also selects those overseas large-scale merchants as Woodbury Premium Outlets in New York and Desert Hills Premium Outlets in Los Angeles favored by tourists particularly to launch exclusive privileges of UnionPay cards for the first time. Moreover, the catering merchants like Hong Kong IAPM and such culture and entertainment merchants as Taiwan Eslite Bookstore are also covered.

As the travelling ways selected by cardholders have become more diversified and more and more tourists choose free exercise, the preferential program includes more preferential ways and exclusive services. For instance, the UnionPay “QuickPass” cardholders may enjoy additionally exclusive privileges in Harbour City and Doota Shopping Center. It is available for cardholders visiting Korea to enjoy such value-added services as leaving luggage in UnionPay lounge and using free WIFI. Besides, the UnionPay top-end cardholders may enjoy a series of VIP services in Printemps such as private shopping guide in Chinese, hands free shopping, preferential tax reimbursement and local express.
