Spain is the hottest holiday destination as bookings continue to soar

While the 25-44 age range seem to have fallen out of love with Malaga, the 45+ age range are still enamoured and up by a third on average. Catalonia and the Costa Dorada are proving to still be popular with all age groups, with bookings up 91% year on year.

It seems that Spain is the hottest destination to visit this year, with many regions increasing in bookings year on year, most notably with Reus up 60%, Alicante up 40%, Girona up a massive 109% and Jerez in Costa De La Luz up a whopping 8900%.

Research conducted by Holiday Hypermarket has found that Alicante in the Costa Brava has continued to grow in popularity in particular, with all age groups increasing in bookings, except only for the 35-44 age groups, who seem to now favour Catalonia and the Costa Dorada. The 55-64 and 65+ age groups saw the steepest incline, with a 53% and 45% increase respectively.

Holiday Hypermarket’s holidaymakers seem to have a love/hate relationship with Malaga: while the 25-44 age range seem to have fallen out of love with Malaga, the 45+ age range are still enamoured and up by a third on average. Bookings from the silver surfers in particular were up 57%, who are perhaps looking for a spot of sun given our changeable weather over the last few springs and early summers. There has also been increased booking in the 17-24 age bracket, in line with the popularity of TOWIE and their religiously followed mantra of no carbs before marbs.

Catalonia and the Costa Dorada are proving to still be popular with all age groups, with bookings up 91% year on year. 81% are heading to Salou, with 55% of them booking half-board accommodation, suggesting that there is plenty to do out and about in Salou. Girona is up by a huge 100% for 45-54 age group and 83% for 55-64 ages, while Reus is up significantly across all age groups, particularly with 65+, seemingly a perfect place for a relaxing holiday.

Costa De Almeria, Spain’s hidden Costa, also seems to be a popular destination with the over 65s, with bookings up a huge 200%. All bookings are up 42% for the year to date, so it looks like this is set to continue to soar throughout the rest of the year. Holiday Hypermarket representative, Ian Crawford, commented on these findings: “The sharp increase in bookings are prevalent across various areas of Spain, indicating to the wide variety Spain has to offer to UK holidaymakers. It seems from our findings that Spain is going nowhere in popularity, from Catalan to the Costa Del Sol.” With Spain having a record year for tourism in 2014, with 14.3 million Britons visiting the country, it seems there is no limit to the draw that Spain has on tourists.
