Riga Airport welcomes 50 millionth passenger

The Riga International Airport served 2,377,503 passengers during the first six months this year.

On July 29, Riga International Airport welcomed its 50 millionth passenger since the establishment of the airport. Ms Monta Skabarniece arrived at the airport onboard airBaltic flight from Munich.

“I am very pleased at the Riga Airport’s remarkable achievement – serving 50 million passengers. The number of passengers is continuing to increase, and I wish the airport to serve more than 5 million passengers this year. I thank the airport’s staff and management for their contribution, as well as the largest carrier at the airport, the national airline airBaltic that offers extensive travel opportunities from Riga,” emphasised Minister for Transport of Latvia Anrijs Matiss.

Andris Liepins, Riga airport Chairman of the Board: “Our joint effort and work has fostered a steady growth in the number of passengers served at the airport. It is very likely that the airport will again serve more than 5 million passengers this year, and the next 50 million in less than ten years.”

The Riga International Airport presented the 50 millionth passengers with the airport’s passenger loyalty card RIX Club and the airport’s souvenirs. Monta Skabarniece received Business class tickets from airBaltic, and the airport’s co-operation partner JSC “Riga Airport Commercial Development” (“ATU Duty Free”) congratulated the lucky passenger by bringing a special gift basket.

The Riga International Airport served 2,377,503 passengers during the first six months this year. The most popular destinations from the Riga Airport this year are London, Moscow, Frankfurt, Oslo, and Helsinki. On the other hand, the most popular countries with passengers travelling from Riga are Germany, Great Britain, Russia, Norway, and Finland.

airBaltic has strengthened its position in the Baltic region for the summer season 2015 by launching 14 new direct routes from Riga, Tallinn and Vilnius. airBaltic has added Aalborg (Denmark), Dubrovnik (Croatia), Thessaloniki (Greece), Rhodes (Greece) and Pisa (Italy) to the network of cities served from Riga.
